Saturday May 20th from 8 am to 2 pm at 515 Dowboro Rd.
Pittsfield, just 3.5 miles from the center of Town. We will
also have food and beverages for those of you who need a coffee and
a muffin in the morning!
Anyone who would like to donate items
for our sale can drop them off at the address listed above. We
respectfully request that you do not bring items of clothing or any
heavy items.

Congratulations to Alana Macnichol of Pittsfield, New
Hampshire, who was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi
Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline
collegiate honor society. Macnichol was initiated at Florida
Institute of Technology.
Macnichol is among approximately 30,000
students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated
into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and
requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10
percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for
membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of
candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty,
professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly
distinction.
The Merrimack County Stamp Collectors
will hold its monthly meeting at the Bow Mills United Methodist
Church, 505 South St., Bow, on May 16th beginning at 1 pm.
We invite all who are interested in stamp collecting to attend,
share their interest, buy, sell and trade. Meet other
collectors and learn more about their hobby and enjoy the fellowship
of others with varied interests in Philatelic resources and issues.
Gain new insight and knowledge, sharing news articles and stories
abut stamp collecting. Learn of the latest cutting edge

Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run™ Competition for area youth.

Pitch Hit & Run™ is the official skills competition of
Major League Baseball®.
All participants must bring a copy
of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill
out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the

Bikes!
May 5th Footwork Fridays resume. Pittsfield Elementary
School (PES) students in grades 1-6 can be dropped off at the Family
Dollar parking lot by bus or car and walk to school with PES staff.
May 5 th Ride your bike at recess. Helmets a must!
PES Students
can ride the circle out in front of the school during midday recess.
There will be a helmet check station and a tire pressure station.
Families can drop bikes off in the am and pick up at the end of the
day.
Students can also ride to school (families’ discretion!).

What can TOPS do for you? TOPS stands for Take Off Pounds
Sensibly and that is what our chapter aims to do.
By joining
TOPS, you can benefit in the following ways. There is
weekly weigh-in for your own accountability. Fellow members always
offer support whether you had a gain or loss for the week.
Your success is important to all of us. You will learn about healthy
food choices as well as other ways to enhance good health.
Recently, Jon Martin shared an article about some benefits for
eating chocolate. Dark chocolate can benefit high blood pressure and
cardiovascular health. Pat Smith brought in an article about “super
foods” such as beans, celery, garlic, onions, peas, peppers,
sunflower and sesame seeds. These benefit the body in various
ways. Both articles provided good information to use when
making food choices.
You will be motivated to lose weigh by
participating in weight loss contests which take place periodically.
Our Easter Egg contest for weight loss was won by Sandi Truscott and
Peggy Driscoll. Congratulations, ladies.

Letter
Town Meeting Follow Up
Dear Pittsfield Citizen,
At the March
Town Business Meeting I proposed two articles from the floor,
neither of which were voted on because they were not properly warned
prior to the meeting. I addressed my fund balance proposal in a
previous letter. Please allow me to explain my proposal to
discontinue the Property Acquisition and Redevelopment Expendable
Trust Fund (PARETF).
A much needed Economic Development Committee
(EDC) was established in 2006, some major accomplishments to include
establishment of the PARETF (2008), adoption of RSA 79-e (tax
incentive for businesses expansion), adoption of ERZ162 (state
business tax credit), installation of business signs along Route 28,
updating of economic profiles and strategies, and the establishment
of the Suncook Valley Regional Development Corporation (SVRDC).
After working with a pro bono attorney for a year, the SVRDC
received its tax exemption status. You can learn more about our

Now for a viable project…
Since early
2016 the SVRDC has submitted proposals for three different projects
in town (1 Fayette Street, 11 Watson Street, and 33/37 Main Street),
none of which have been accepted by the BOS. More details on these
proposals and applicable forums and discussions can be found at the
town hall. In summary, it has been our intention to borrow from the
PARETF at a low interest rate and use the proceeds towards
renovation and ultimate resale. Our latest proposal was to renovate
33/37 Main Street (business use on first floor and no more than two
rental units, complete with off street parking) and sell it.
Although the merged property has been owned by the town (no tax
revenue) since December, it is our understanding that the BOS is
seeking a private investor. Therefore (in my humble estimation) the
money in the PARETF can be better served going back to the
taxpayers.

Early
Woodworking In Pittsfield
Woodworking, in one form or another,
was once a part of everyday life for people pre-industrialization.
We will explore the crafts’ origins from the humble beginnings
of John Cram’s sawmill to the box and shingle mills of the late 19th
and early 20th centuries, and how this industry was indispensable to
the early growth of Pittsfield.
Short biographies will include:
Jacob Jones, clockmaker; Abraham French, cabinet-maker; William
Hartwell, millwright and lumberman; and many others.
After the
presentation by David Harper, on Wednesday May 10th at 7 pm, at the
Society, 13 Elm Street, there will be a brief demonstration with
some of the hand tools and techniques these craftsmen would have
used in their work.
Obituaries
Eleanor
M. Bailey
Eleanor M. Bailey, 79, of Stevens Drive, Concord passed away Sunday,
April 16th, after a period of failing health. She was
surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born in
Marlborough, MA and was the third of six children. She is
predeceased by her father Maurice E. Bailey, her mother Edna W.
(Parmenter) Bailey, and her brother Clarence E. Bailey.
Eleanor
held several jobs throughout her working life but her favorite was
at Harvard’s Primate Center, Southborough, MA.
Eleanor had a
great love of gardening and animals.
She is survived by her
sister Ruth Gelina of Westborough, MA, her sister Carol Stafford of
Springfield, MA, her brother Warren S. Bailey and his wife Vivian of
Wells, ME, and her sister Cynthia J. Bradley and her husband Robert
of Epsom, NH, as well as a great number of nieces, nephews, great
nieces, and great nephews.
A memorial service will be held
Sunday, May 7th at 1:00 PM at the Deerfield Community Church, 15
Church Street, Deerfield, NH 03037.
In lieu of flowers, donations

William
A. Signor
William A. Signor, age 88, peacefully passed away in
Florida on March 29th, 2017.
He was born April 11th, 1928 in
Manchester NH and lived in the NH area until he moved to Lynn, MA
where he met his wife Yolanda Puleo (who predeceased him January
2007). They had three daughters; Jane Naus, and Diane Holey both of
Lynn, and Janet Collins of Largo Florida. He also has a brother
Robert Signor of Manchester, NH.
William leaves behind his loving
wife Patricia Kelly Signor and three step-children; Marguerite Perry
and Kenneth Kelly of Raymond, NH and Kathleen Mazzatto of Derry, NH,
also a favorite sister-in-law Eleanor Marcello of Methuen, MA. Other
relatives include 4 grandchildren of Lynn, MA; Sean and Dan Connolly
and Joe and Marc Holey, also 2 granddaughters of Tracy Conklin and
Tara Applegate both of Largo, Florida. He has 9 great-grandchildren,
and one great-great-grandchild, many cousins, nieces and nephews all
of whom he was very fond of.
William was a World War II veteran
serving in the United States Coast Guard.
He worked at many jobs
both in Massachusetts and NH, retiring from the Budweiser Brewery in
Merrimack, NH, where he was hired for his painting skills.
While
in his 50’s, he built his own home in Loudon, NH.
Besides his
carpentry and painting skills, he loved to sing and enjoyed karaoke,
loved cars and played shuffleboard in Florida. He also enjoyed
making his own homemade fudge, and baking his apple pies.
He
loved and enjoyed his family and friends, especially his loving wife
Patricia since June 12th, 2009.
The Celebration of William’s Life
will be held on Saturday, May 6th at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church,
50 Main Street Pittsfield, at 10:30 AM.
Family and Friends may
gather downstairs in the Church following the service. A military
burial will be held at the Bedford Center Cemetery on Church
Street in Bedford, NH at 3 PM also on May 6th.
