Letter To The Editor

“In the beginning was the Word…the Word was with God…the Word was God (John 1:1). And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (v.14). What Child is this that we celebrate at Christmas?  It is Jesus; Emmanuel; God with us. God Himself being born…the mystery of godliness (I Timothy 3:16) that is beyond our comprehension. Where did He come from?

“He was in the beginning with God,” and “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:2-3). Jesus didn’t begin in Bethlehem. Never was there a time when He didn’t exist nor will there ever be a time when He ceases to exist. Almighty God sent His Son to earth “according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” (II Timothy 1:8-9). Why did Jesus come down from heaven and take upon Himself the form of a human?

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—In the volume of the book it is written of Me—To do Your will, O God.’” Jesus came to do the will of the Father, to destroy Satan’s power of eternal separation from God. While all will experience the first death, physical separation of the soul and body, it was necessary for Jesus to be born in Bethlehem’s manger with the sole purpose of one day going to the cross to die. However, the story didn’t end there; He arose from the grave to put a final end to the second death (Revelation 21:8) for those who put their trust in Him. “She will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21)” Will you by faith receive His eternal gift of salvation?

To His majesty and glory,

Linda Small
