Mountain Bike Group 1
by Kyle Clark
On Wednesday, July 30, 2008, a whopping number of 17 met for an
evening of trail riding at Bear Brook State Park. Glen Raiche
caused us to start 20 minutes late due to his tardiness. He did
bring a new rider along though, Jim, his brother’s ex-wife’s
third ex-husband.
We started off by riding 1.5 miles to the top of Podunk Rd. This
is where the group split up into two. Four members of the
Mountain Bike Group 1 Annex took the newly renovated Chipmunk
Trail and some other various trails within the park. The 13
remaining took The I Trail. Steve Brown was the first to take a
digger and did so within a rock garden. We then met two other
riders coming the other way and one managed to collide with
Glenn Raiche. Jim also had around a half dozen crashes, one even
landed him in Bear Brook. We then powered our way to the top of
Rattlesnake Mountain. At the top we all took a breather and Rob
Baldwin noticed that he had a tear in the side of his tire. A
quick Judy Joyce dollar trick and he was good to go. On the way
down a chit-chatty Glenn Raiche was warning riders about a crash
he had taken on the sharp turn when he toppled off his bike. At
the end of the trail John Locke got a stick to the eyeball and
lost his vision for a few minutes, luckily it was nothing
serious. We then careened down The Lynx Trail. Everyone made it
across the alligator swamp boardwalk safely. After that we flew
down the snowmobile trail that follows the camp road. We then
took the salt lick trail back to Hayes Field.
This week, August 13, 2008, we will be hitting the trails of
Bear Brook State Park. Meet at Hayes Field at 6:00 pm.
Carpoolers from Pittsfield can meet at the Community Center at
5:30 pm. Any questions email
[email protected] or call 848-7822.
Letter To the Editor,
My name is Katherine Rogers and I am running for Merrimack
County Attorney in the Democratic Primary September 9th.
I have served for the last ten years as County Commissioner
and have helped to develop a number of alternative justice
programs that rehabilitate criminals and control costs to the
taxpayers. As County Attorney I will continue to work towards
alternatives to simply placing a criminal in the county jail and
have taxpayers fund that criminal at $65 a day.
I will initiate Project H.O.P.E (Helping Out People Early) with
major three goals:
1. Reduce juvenile criminal behavior by building a Program aimed
at juveniles to reduce crime and violence by getting youth off
the streets and back into school rather then into court.
2. Initiate Family Court Juvenile Prosecution Assistance with a
specially assigned Attorney to direct Family Court Prosecutions,
and
3. Community Outreach by holding Neighborhood Crime summits – a
series of classes to better inform citizens about the most
important issues in the fight against crime.
I understand hard work and diligence. I went back to school at
the age of 42. I worked, served as a Concord City Councilor
and County Commissioner and commuted to Suffolk Law School to
earn my law degree. And in 2002 graduated from Suffolk
University Law School and went to work for the Allenstown police
Department as its prosecutor.
I understand how to work on a budget and believe that every
dollar spent must be accountable to the taxpayers of Merrimack
County.
I have the skills and the experience to protect the families of
Merrimack County and I ask for your vote as Merrimack County
Attorney in the September 9th Democratic Primary.
