Letter

Dear Neighbor,

“What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!”  (William Walker)

The first mention of love in the Bible is found in Genesis when God told Abraham, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering…” (22:2). By faith, Abraham took Isaac to Mount Moriah as God had commanded him (in order to test his faith). Just as Abraham “stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son”, the Angel of the Lord called upon him from heaven. “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me” (vv. 11-12). God provided for Himself a ram in a thicket.  Abraham fittingly named that place The-Lord-Will-Provide (Jehovah-Jireh). Here-in lies the setting for the greatest love story ever told…

This very place - “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided” (v. 14) - is where God provided not only a ram in Isaac’s place but also a Savior in humanity’s place. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This very place is where Jesus Christ submitted to the will of the Father, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8), and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God…” (Ephesians 5:2).

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Because of His love,

Linda Small

“Meet Our Members” – Capt. Michael Wolfe

Pittsfield_Fire_MOM_M_Wolfe_cropped.jpg

Next up in Pittsfield Fire Department’s “Meet Our Members” series is Capt. Michael Wolfe.  Capt. Wolfe has been a member for almost 21 years and served as an EMT for 16 of those years.

Q: Why did you become a firefighter?

A: Every member of a community should do something to give back to the community.  This is my way of giving back.  It’s the right thing to do.  When someone calls 911, they assume the fire department will come.  If people don’t join the department, there is a chance not enough people will respond to a call.

Q: What are your responsibilities as the Forest Fire Warden for the Town of Pittsfield?

A: Primarily, making sure the department has the tools, equipment, and training to put out forest fires. Also, it’s my job to keep the public informed about forest fire laws and fire prevention.  I try to attend the monthly meeting for our region to keep up with what’s going on around us.

Q: What other community groups are you involved with?

A: I am a member of the School Board and am also an assistant scoutmaster with the local Boy Scout troop.   I’m a member of the Drake Field Committee and part of the Suncook Valley Sno-Riders snowmobile club.  I was on the Housing Standards Agency board for a while.  I try to help out whenever I can.

Q: What’s your formula for striking a balance with all you are involved in?

A:  Don’t forget what’s important to you.  I have an awesome wife–Gretchen– and two sons.  They have been very supportive of all of my “hobbies.”  My boys, Tucker (on right, in photo) and Casey (on left, in photo), are with me whenever possible whether it’s working at the fire station or doing trail work with the snowmobile club.  Involving my family in everything I do is really what makes it work.  Without their support, I couldn’t do it.

Danis Barbershop has generously donated this gift certificate as well as their services in removed the bearded madness once the Winni Dip has passed.

Pittsfield Ambulance.jpg

The Pittsfield Fire Department placed the newest member of the fire department - 72 Ambulance 2 - into service on January 16, 2014. The new ambulance is a 2014 Chevy/Braun ambulance which replaces the 10-year old 2004 Ford/Braun ambulance. We would like to express our appreciation to the community of Pittsfield in supporting this purchase.
