DEA Take-Back On April 28th
In addition to cluttering up your medicine cabinet, keeping unused
or expired medication in the home can increase the risk of being
targeted for theft or accidental poisoning, especially among small
children.
In order to protect water quality, flushing is no longer an option.
So what’s a person to do? Participate in the Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) Take-Back Day, of course!
Bring your unused or expired medications to the Pittsfield Police
Department on Saturday, April 28th between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
During the collection event last October the DEA collected over
377,086 pounds of medication nationwide. That’s more than 188 tons
that will stay out of the water supply, out of our landfills, and
out of the wrong hands. Plus, you’ll get that space in your medicine
cabinet back!

Alert: New Email Scam
Submitted By Merrill A. Vaughan, Commander
American Legion
Peterson-Cram Post 75
Pittsfield, NH 03263
An email scam is targeting individuals receiving disability
compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs including
military members, military retirees, and civilian employees.
Although the email appears to come from a DFAS employee and displays
a dot mil address it is actually from a non-government email
account. This is an example of what’s called "spoofing."
The email indicates that individuals receiving VA disability
compensation can receive additional funds from the IRS. The email
states that such funds can be obtained by sending copies of your VA
award letter, your income tax returns, your 1099-Rs, your RAS
statements, and a copy of your DD 214, to a so-called retired
Colonel at an address in Florida. Do Not follow the
suggestions in the email because you will be providing a significant
amount of your personal information to a complete stranger, which
could result in a financial loss to you.
The 1099-Rs that are issued by DFAS reflect only the taxable portion
of a member’s retired pay. DFAS is not aware of any legal basis for
the alleged additional funds that the IRS would supposedly pay over.
By ignoring the email, you will avoid frustration, the release of
personal information to a stranger, and the possibility of financial
loss.
If you have any questions or concerns about these or any other tax
issues, you should contact a known, reputable tax consultant, tax
attorney, or legal assistance officer for advice and assistance.
Read our agency email policy available on
www.dfas.mil that has been
developed to protect customer privacy.
Please share this information with your fellow Soldiers, Sailors,
Airmen, and Marines, military retirees and families so they are
aware of this scam.

Dear Pittsfield Taxpayers:
At the March 17th Town Meeting, three public safety employees waited
to see if they still had jobs.
Voters explained the tough choices they make to make ends meet. You
are suffering.
However, the newly elected planning board member, Bill Miskoe,
thinks you should foot the bill for a paid recorder.
Last year I was the Planning Board Chair and the board appointed Jim
Pritchard as the board’s recorder. Jim has been the recorder ever
since. He is capable, thorough and fair. He works at no expense
to Pittsfield taxpayers. Appointing Jim was good tax-conscious
town management.
For years Jim has fought the status quo and people that like things
as they are. This is why he has many that dislike him. Last year’s
Planning Board did a lot of work on tax-conscious planning. The
status quo people destroyed much of that work with misinformation
and personal attacks. It seems that Bill’s dislike and disrespect
for Jim is clouding his judgment. I guess, it is important enough to
him that he is willing for you to spend money on a new recorder.
Bill says there is a "perception of impropriety" so Jim should not
be the Board’s recorder. This issue is the result of he and others
causing the perception problem. Bill even admitted that he has no
evidence of inaccuracy in any of the minutes Jim typed up. The
entire board is responsible for the accuracy of the minutes. If
there is a problem with the minutes, they simply recommend changes
before approving them.
I felt you should know that your vote can and does effect
your taxes and town spending.
Sincerely,
Ted Mitchell
Spring Cleaning For Meals On Wheels
We need you! The Senior Centers of Belknap and Merrimack Community
Action Program Inc. are partnering with Planet Aid to collect clean
donated clothing, outerwear and shoes/boots, bedding, curtains,
belts, handbags and ties for the entire month of April to benefit
the Meals on Wheels Program. Planet Aid will give 5¢ per pound of
items collected. Planet Aid is a non-profit organization that
recycles clothing and other items.
According to the Meals on Wheels Association of America, there are
over 5 million seniors who experience malnutrition in the United
States. Throughout Belknap and Merrimack Counties the Community
Action Meals on Wheels program proudly served 1,507 Meals on Wheels
clients with 249,747 meals from July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011. With
your support, we can continue to be sure no older adult goes hungry.
Please bring your donations to the Pittsfield Area Senior Center and
we’ll arrange delivery to the collection point at the Alton Senior

March For Meals Walk-A-Thon To Support Meals On Wheels
Elder Services of the Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack
Counties, Inc. including the Pittsfield Area Senior Center is
hosting a special event to celebrate the Meals on Wheels Program
(MOW).
The event is a walk, March for Meals, that will be held on May 19th
at Delta Dental in Concord from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. This charitable
walk-a-thon will raise public awareness of the Meals on Wheels
Program. MOW provides nutritious meals, safety wellness checks and
connection to community resources. This efficient mix of services
supports older adults to live independently in their homes and
communities.
Nancy Parascandola, coordinator of the Concord Meals on Wheels
program describes the impact that Meals on Wheels has on
participants. "I had not seen Joe for two months; previously he was
not able to get up and walk to the door. To my surprise, Joe greeted
me at the door. I simply could not believe the difference in his
physical strength and demeanor. A Vietnam veteran, he is living with
cancer. That day he proudly showed me the train layout he was
constructing for his 5 year old grandson. He is busy making memories
and living every day, with the help of modern medicine and a healthy
diet."
Joe says, "I really value the service. I appreciate that someone
checks in on me Monday through Friday when my family is busy. If it
wasn’t for Meal on Wheels, I would be eating crackers and milk."
The March for Meals walk will raise funds to help pay for the home
delivered meals provided to the increasing number of seniors living
in Belknap and Merrimack Counties. For more information on how to
register to participate in the walk or to make a pledge, please call
435-8482. Thank you for your support!

TOPS News
Submitted By Terrie Azotea
This past week we had another good weight loss. Kudos to those who
lost. Congrats were handed out to certain ones for their weight
loss. It is always encouraging to see someone on the right tract of
losing weight or they have had a really good week and need to be
recognized for it.
We talked about our walking program that will be starting up on the
second Tuesday of the month. So, when you see us out walking give us
a wave and we will be sure to wave back.
This time of the year it’s always refreshing to get outside and go
for a walk. Just bring the bug spray because we will be having those
wonderful black flies that always seem to want to hang out with us.
They don’t get the hint that they belong in Maine!
It’s that time of year when we are all outside doing our yard work
and that in itself is exercise. It’s also very painful on our bodies
if we overdo it. So be careful and do it in moderation. When you go
to the scales you might see you have had a great loss or your shorts
might fit different because you have lost some inches. Now that’s a
celebration when that happens.
We talked about having our yard sale the weekend of the town wide
yard sale. We will be searching our homes to see what we have to put
into that. We also got some awesome information on the incredible
egg and all the protein and benefits that it has for us.
If anyone is interested in coming out to see us, we meet on Tuesday
nights at the St. Stephen’s Church on Main Street in Pittsfield at
5:30 for weigh in and 6:30 for our meeting. Any questions please
call Laurel Tiede at 269-8721 or Pat Smith at 435-5333.
"People love you for who you are. It’s time you did, too!" Hope
everyone has a great week and we’ll see you lighter next week!

From the Desk of the Selectmen
Dear Citizens of Pittsfield:
On April 10th the Board of Selectmen approved a draft Policy for
Communication Releases. The intention of the Board was in no way to
"gag" employees or otherwise but rather to avoid potentially harmful
misinterpretations and misunderstandings within the community.
However because it has stimulated more hardship than solution, the
Board has called a special meeting on April 20th to rescind the
policy that has not yet been officially executed.
Words are a powerful tool and can be used for good or to hurt
others. It is the Board’s hope that discretion as well as common
courtesy and respect for our fellow neighbor be exhibited by public
employees and officials when submitting letters to the editor. There
are many people who volunteer an exorbitant amount of hours week
after week to positive efforts in Pittsfield. Please join the Board
in working together toward the common good of the place we all call
home.

Selectmen
Letter To The Editor
As you know, I am at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Home and have been
for the past three years, but still get the news about what goes on
in Pittsfield from The Suncook Valley Sun and the Concord Monitor.
Nellie brings the Sun to me every week and after breakfast I go to
our library for the Monitor.
I read the piece about Linda Small trying to get the Selectmen’s
office to take over the Police and Fire Departments. What does she
know? How can she tell them not talk to anyone without permission
from the Selectmen’s office? Both have the right to do their duty
and to do their jobs without someone who doesn’t know what they are
responsible for taking over.
You should know how important they are for the safety of everyone in
Pittsfield. Keep your duties in your only duties. [sic]
