Behind The Scenes At The Scenic Theatre:
I Remember Mama The
Pittsfield Players are hard at work rehearsing for their fall
musical production of Richard Rodgers’ “I Remember Mama”. The show
will run at the Scenic Theater, 6 Depot Street in Pittsfield, on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 2, 3 and 4, and again the
following weekend on Friday and Saturday, November 9 and 10. Friday
and Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm and the matinee on Sunday is at 2
pm. Tickets, which are on sale now, are $15 per person, $12 for
seniors over 65 and kids under 12. You can reserve your tickets by
calling 435-8852.
This wonderful family show tells the story of the Hansen family,
immigrants from Norway, and their struggle to thrive and remain in
America in 1910. The Hansens have five children, and their oldest
daughter, Katrin, has dreams of becoming a writer. It is her story
that tells the tale of how their mother, Marta, manages to keep food
on the table and a roof over their head in spite of hard times. This
is a story that takes place in San Francisco in 1910, yet rings true
in today’s times as well.
The cast is composed of many of your favorite Players’ actors and
actresses, and veteran actress Lena Luongo will be playing the role
of Mama. Lena lives in Tilton and works in Concord, and she has been
a Pittsfield Players member since 1980. Lena has been seen in many
Players’ shows over the years, including 20 years with the Encore
troupe, and has performed in Streetcar Company productions in
Laconia. Lena brings her strong vocal talent and acting ability to
the role of Mama, her first leading lady role in all the years she
has performed with the Players. Her first show with the Players was
The Music Man, and her favorite shows were Two By Two and Charlie’s
Aunt. In “I Remember Mama”, Lena’s talents shine in the major role
of Mama.
Wayne A. Sevin of Belmont will be playing the role of Papa Hansen.
He has appeared in numerous productions over the years with the
Majestic Theatre in Manchester and has also been seen on stage with
the Streetcar Company in Laconia and the Village Players in
Wolfeboro. Years ago, he performed with the Pittsfield Players in
their Encore Show and in their production of HMS Pinafore. Some of
his favorite roles included Captain Georg Von Trapp in The Sound of
Music, Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly and Emile de Becque in
South Pacific. Wayne is very happy to return to the Pittsfield
Players stage in this production and to be working with such a
talented cast. His tenor/baritone voice is perfect for the Richard
Rodgers score, and his acting skills add depth to his character of
Lars Hansen.
“I Remember Mama” is directed by Maye Hart, produced by Mo Demers,
with choreography by Carole Neveux, set design by Jim Hart, and
Doris George as stage manager and Phil Breton as music director.
Tickets will be going fast for these performances, so make your
reservations now!
Next Behind the Scenes: The Hansen children.
Letter To The Editor
I supported a law requiring a voter to identify themselves. The
reason we want people to identify themselves is to protect the votes
of legitimate voters. Any time a person votes when they are not
entitled to vote, it cancels the vote of a legitimate registered
voter. Voter identification is meant to protect your vote from
being cancelled.
On Primary election day, the comment I heard most often was, “It’s
about time voters were asked to prove who they said they were.”
There have been no complaints to me as a State Representative about
voter identification. It makes me wonder what all the hoopla is
about. People I talk to are happy to help protect the rights of all
voters, to only count the votes of those who are members of their
community.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Open House And Station Tour
The members and Officers of the Pittsfield Fire Department and
Pittsfield Firefighters Association invite you to attend a Fire
Prevention Open House and Station Tour on Wednesday, October 17 from
5 pm to 7 pm at 33 Catamount Road. For several years, the Fire
Department has held a Fire Prevention Week Open House in October in
conjunction with, and to reinforce, fire safety presentations
conducted in the schools and throughout the community during the
month.
This year, we have something very special to share. Over the past
few months, the building has been under-going a transformation and
we invite citizens to stop in and see the progress that has been
made. It is with sincere appreciation we thank GEF and Linda Freese
of Pittsfield for making this possible. Through their
steadfast support and generous donation to the Pittsfield
Firefighters Association, the apparatus bay has been professionally
cleaned, interior painting has been done throughout the entire
station, ceiling tiles have been replaced where needed, and interior
and exterior lighting has been upgraded and replaced to be
energy-efficient. Individual gear lockers for firefighters’
turn-out gear have also been ordered.
For several years, the Association has looked at various ways to
raise funds for Class A dress uniforms, with little success.
Thanks to GEF and Linda, this challenging goal has been met.
These expressions of generosity and kindness contribute greatly to
the pride our members have in serving and representing our community
and in providing emergency services. It is with great
sincerity we say thank you to GEF and Linda.
The purpose of the Pittsfield Firefighters Association, a 501(c)(3)
organization, is to promote the welfare and well being of the
Pittsfield Fire Department and the members thereof, both active and
retired, and to promote the betterment of fire and rescue operations
in the Town of Pittsfield. Find us on Facebook at: Pittsfield
Firefighters Association.
