A follow up on a recent article in the “Sun”
regarding the graduation of Abigayle Cheney from Colby Sawyer
College. On June 22nd, she passed her State Board exams and is
non-officially an RN. Also, omitted in the article was the
fact that on March 11, 2011, Judith Joy, PhD. RN, Assistant
Professor in the Department of Nursing at Colby-Sawyer College,
nominated Abigayle for the New Hampshire Nurses’ Association Student
Nurse of the Year Award. Although she didn’t win the award, it was
indeed an honor to have been nominated. Her entire family is
proud of her accomplishments throughout her four years at Colby
Sawyer, especially “Grammy Pearl.”
Do you play a

What better way to celebrate the Balloon Rally’s 30th year than to
cancel the fireworks. Wait a minute, don’t people usually amp
up for big numbers like 30?
I have lived in Pittsfield for seven
years, and I love it here. Coming from Boston, it’s nice to
know my neighbors have my back, and that people in town know me by
name.
Since living here, we have hosted an annual Balloon Rally
party at our house. At first it was just a small gathering,
but now it has grown into an event. Guests come from all over
New England and various reaches in Canada, just to enjoy the Balloon
Rally.
We have brought around 100 people to Pittsfield
every year; 100 people frequenting the shops
and services of this town.
The fireworks are the big capper to our party;
guests sit on our lawn to “oh” and “ahh” over the best fireworks
display ever. Without the “Fireworks Spectacular” we will
likely lose several guests, including new invitees being introduced
to the town for the first time.
How can we make this right again?

Dear Editor: Can’t we all just agree to disagree in regards to
the fireworks issue and move on?
There are valid points that were
made from both sides of the coin. Instead of going back and
forth with the issue, let’s just put our collective heads together
to try and come up with creative and new ideas on what to do next.
It is, after all, balloon rally weekend and the hot air balloons
should be the main focal point as it has been since day one.
I
thought of a neat, modern idea of using choreographed music along
side of a technetronic laser show during the annual night glow
performance by the balloons. Another idea was to invite music
bands of all styles to volunteer their time and talent to play
throughout the day at the bandstand at alternate times.
Everyone loves a good show and these ideas would, in my opinion,
continue to make the annual Balloon Rally Weekend a weekend to not
be missed!
Sincerely, Heidi Knight

I just recently moved to Pittsfield within the last few years, and
one of the reasons I agreed to come here with our children was
because of the fireworks at the balloon rally. I’ve come here for
years before for the rally, namely the fireworks and loved the
place, My boyfriend grew up here; this is where I wanted our kids to
grow up.
I grew up in Concord and we never had anything like
this display of community let alone the outstanding fireworks!!!!
I’m ashamed that a town would let a few people threaten to take a
privately owned place to court over this unless they stop letting
the fire works off from their land, Their Land...
Where do they
get off? Because they should most likely get back to their dark hole
and stay there and the town should let the Cemetery owners know they
have their back. You, we, I can’t blame the owners or Rotary for
this happening, whom without we would have never had this great joy
in the first place. I hope something can be done about this and
about the people who think they can get away with bullying the Town
of Pittsfield. But if this is allowed to happen then...well I
don’t know what to think.
Sincerely,
A. Goodman Proudly

I hope that everyone had a
great Fourth of July holiday and that you got to spend some time
with family and friends doing something that you enjoy.
Summer
weather is here and its nice to go on a Sunday ride or a night
during the week to have a ice cream at your local stand. But
remember most places have frozen yogurt that is really good for you
and saves on a few calories..
At TOPS this past week, we had a
good time playing Bingo and seeing a few gifts go around the room.
We had some really big weight losses also. Keep up the good
work! We try to help each other out and encourage each other on
our weight loss journey. We have a really good support group. It’s
always nice to give a hug or send a nice card in the mail.
We
meet on Tuesday nights at the St. Stephens Church in Pittsfield at
5:30 for weigh in and at 6:30 for our meeting. Please feel free to
stop by or give one of the following ladies a call; Laurel Tiede at
269-8721 or Pat Smith at 435-5333. These ladies would be glad
to answer any questions you might have. Hope everyone has a great
week.
