Business After Hours Submitted By Michele Beauregard
The
Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce held their monthly Business
After Hours. The event was sponsored by Northway Bank in
Pittsfield and was hosted by Carolyn Allhiser, branch manager,
and staff. They provided a warm and welcoming event for
all Chamber Members to meet and interact with one another.
The
event was catered by Robin Donovan from the Garden Kitchen.
The food was delicious, which was apparent by the lack of leftovers
remaining after the event. Refreshments were provided by
Northway Bank.
Jared Griffin presented a short talk on
Northway Bank’s cash management solutions, which interested the
gathered business people in attendance. Several prizes were
given away during this event. Northway Bank gave away a brief
case; a gift basket from Moo-Veez Galore; as well as a candy bouquet
from Sweet Bouquets and More.
The Members all
enjoyed their time during The Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce
Business After Hours. We had over 40 people attend this event.
People were still stopping by at 8:00 as the event was finishing.
Each Member was able to interact with one another and had the
opportunity to learn about the individual businesses and the
services they offer. For more information about The Greater
Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce, please visit
www.pittsfieldchamber.org.
We would like to send out a special Thank You to Northway Bank for
offering the space for such a wonderful event. Thank you for
being the people we know and the bank that we all trust!!
Letter To The Editor
To the Fire Departments of Pittsfield,
Barnstead and Epsom: We would like to thank all the fire fighters
who responded to our recent early morning chimney fire. Due to
the quick, experienced and coordinated response the fire was
contained to the chimney with virtually no mess in our home.
Thank you to Pittsfield for coordinating all of the efforts, for
providing support and continued communication throughout the
process; to Barnstead for the mutual aid use of their ladder
truck and the firefighters who go with it. A special thank you
to the Barnstead firefighter on the ladder truck who continued to
work even after the hot chains burned through his glove; he just put
on a new pair and kept on working with an injured hand.
Thank
you to Epsom for sending firefighters to assist. Thank you to the
firefighters who squeezed through the tiny attic access scuttle hole
to make sure the fire had not escaped the chimney; to the
firefighters who carried bucket after bucket of ashes and debris
from the basement as it was pushed down through by those on the
roof. Thank you to all of the firefighters and responders who
assisted in putting out our fire. The sheer number of
mostly volunteer firefighters that responded is simply astonishing.
Thank you.

The Spring Raffle at Circle Child Care in Epsom was made possible by
the generous donation of gift certificates by The TOY BOX of
Pittsfield. We were assured an unbiased drawing by turning to
the children to pick from the tickets. Lucky winners were Kody
Morgan, Lisa’s room, and the first prize went to the Keane
family, just in time for Easter! JT Keane doesn’t quite get
the concept of the “gift certificate”, but we are sure he and his
two brothers will get it soon.
Letter
Thank you to the Pittsfield Fire Department for their help
on April 13th when I fell in my home and required emergency
services.
Robert Boston
Dorcas Guild
The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church, Pittsfield,
held its regular meeting on April 12th. Nella
Hobson, president, opened the meeting and Sally Lewis led devotions,
beginning with a great reading entitled, “The Cracked Pot,” and a
fable from India with a religious moral. All followed with the
Lord’s Prayer.
The secretary read her report from the previous
meeting, read several items of correspondence which included many
thank you’s and circulated several cards to be signed and sent.
The treasurer gave her financial report.
The food basket, brought
by Evelyn Richard was taken by Nella and will go next to Kathy
Bergeron. Mary Jo Powelson has the apron, which goes next to
Shirley Bleckmann. Elsie Morse won the mystery package,
brought by Mary Lawson.
It was mentioned that the new flags
(American and Christian) are hanging in the sanctuary, thanks to Sue
Bleckmann who gave them in memory of her husband, Gilbert. The
CPR training date is set for May 7th from 8:30 to 12:30. The
AED (defibrillator) needs to be looked into further with fire
officials. It was announced the service project is going well
and will continue through May. The date for the “Cathedral in
the Pines” trip is in place for June 25th.
It was voted to have
a lily in church on Easter Sunday in loving memory of deceased
members. Members have been asked to supply desserts (mainly
pies) for a Ham and Bean Supper to be held by the Food Pantry at the
church on May 21st, from 5-7 pm.
Plans were made for the Dorcas
Banquet to be held June 14th at Jitters. Plans for hosting a
Sunday Fellowship Hour were discussed. A date will be decided
on at the May meeting.
This meeting was “Talent Night” and
several participated by telling stories and jokes. Nella
delighted the group with a couple of musical renditions on her
autoharp.
Delicious refreshments were served by Sally Lewis,
Nella Hobson, and Betty MacKay. The cakes, punch and table
decorations were all in keeping with Easter. Very delightful.
The next meeting will be held on May 10th, with Kathy Bergeron and
Mary Jo Powelson serving as co-hostesses. Members are asked to
bring a small vase and $3.00 for “Flower Arranging.”
