Parks & Rec. Ski/Snowboard Program
Its not too late to join your

To The Editor
To the good citizens of the free state project:
Thank you for setting an example.
Many of us would gladly trade
the protections society has bestowed on us, for the liberty to live
as we choose without harming our neighbor. Here in Pittsfield,
we have started the free town project.
We have drawn up a
petition, to repeal the 1988 zoning ordinance. It has been
signed, and delivered to Paul Skowan, our very capable Town
Administrator. He has assured me this will receive a public
hearing, and be on the ballot come March.
The way I figure it,
the cops own the roads. The IRS still owns part of our pay.
Our Fire Chief, Gary Johnson, still wants you to get a fire permit,
and Dan Kramer, our Building Inspector still wants you to get a
building permit. If we repeal zoning, we get everything else.
This almost has the taste of freedom.
Anyway, you know the song
by the muse called “Uprising”, I think we’re going to use that for
our campaign theme song. I hope to meet some members of your
group. You are always welcome in Pittsfield. You have
been inspiring. I think you’re onto something.

A Quint
Of Collectible Ornaments To Celebrate The Christmas Season
The Pittsfield Historical Society has issued a fifth ornament to
commemorate our local history and to help you with your decorating
and gift giving.
The new Pittsfield Middle-High School ornament
commemorating the school that held its first classes in 1942 is now
available for purchase. Packaged in a stocking-stuffer size
box that describes its original cost, student capacity and three
subsequent additions, this is the Society’s first color ornament and
joins four previously issued ornaments.
The first ornament,
issued in 2005, depicts the Pittsfield Railroad Station and the “Old
No. 1” Baldwin steam locomotive which ran up and down the Suncook
Valley. The first train left the Pittsfield station on
December 12, 1869 and later became known as the “Blueberry Express”.
The 2006 ornament, Balloons Over the Pittsfield Dam, was issued
to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pittsfield Rotary Club’s
present colorful balloon rally and to acknowledge Pittsfield’s hot
air ballooning history dating from the first ascent at the
Pittsfield Agricultural Fair way back in 1889.
The Old
Meetinghouse ornament commemorates Pittsfield’s decision,
immediately after Pittsfield’s founding in 1782, to build a
meetinghouse. Issued 225 years later, this ornament
displays an old image of what is now the Pittsfield Community
Center.
The
subject of the fourth souvenir is the 1883 wooden covered bridge
over the Suncook River, sometimes referred to as “Suicide Bridge”,
which served what is now Barnstead Road.
All five ornaments can be purchased for $10 each to be enjoyed
locally or to send off to those former Pittsfield residents to enjoy
a piece of “back home”. The first four ornaments are produced
of 24k gold flashed brass while the new High School ornament is in
color and each is packaged in an attractive box with a bit of
history printed on it.

Raffle
Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the two raffles held at
the St. Stephen’s Church Holiday Fair on November 20th. The
holiday food basket was won by Carolyn and Paul Davis of Epsom.
Proceeds from the food basket raffle will be used for the outreach
projects of the church.
The “Town Green” quilt was won by Marylee
Johnson of Barnstead who is giving it as a gift of gratitude to the
neonatal unit of Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. The proceeds
from the quilt raffle go to area food pantries.
Thanks to all who
purchased raffle tickets in support of these worthy causes.
Ladies
Aid
The Ladies Aid of the First Congregational Church in
Pittsfield, met the afternoon of December 6th, in the church vestry
with Freda Jones, president, conducting the meeting. Arlene
Martin opened the meeting with the reading of “Prayer of the Year’s
End” by Edith Shaw Butler. This was followed by all joining in
the Lord’s Prayer. Many, many holiday cards were signed to be
sent to shut-ins, away members of the church family, and friends.
The secretary, Joan Riel, gave her report for the previous meeting
and treasurer, Audrey Moore, gave her financial report.
Following the reports, several expenditures were voted upon
including a donation to the Brick Restoration Project, the
Pittsfield Food Pantry, the Diaconate Board, the Music Committee,
shared costs for the outdoor hanging Christmas wreaths and a
poinsettia in memory of deceased members.
It was voted not to
hold meetings during the winter months. The next meeting will
be held in April and at this time members will discuss, once more,
the decision to dissolve.
The meeting closed with the Mizpah
Benediction after which a social time and refreshments were enjoyed.
Also, following the meeting, many Christmas bags were filled with
candies to be taken to the Senior Center.
