Engineering, was named to the university’s Dean’s List for
academic excellence for the spring 2009 semester.

Greater Pittsfield Chamber Of Commerce Holds Successful
Business After Hours
The Greater Pittsfield Chamber of
Commerce was excited to hold yet another successful Business
After Hours. The event was sponsored by Chichester Massage on
June 11th located on 114 Dover Road in Chichester. They opened
their doors to all of the Chamber Members providing us with food
and free massages for everyone who wanted to participate.
The moment people started to arrive two massage therapists were
available to give 15 to 20 minute chair massages. This was a
fantastic service to provide and everyone left feeling very
relaxed! Several of the members even commented that their pain
had been relieved in that short amount of time!
Light
refreshments were provided by Chichester Massage. They had
homemade cookies that were delicious and made healthier by
lowering the fat content within the cookie. They had veggie
platters as well as many other different arrays of foods. A
grand prize drawing was held for a free ½ hour massage. The
lucky winner will definitely enjoy him/herself!
A tour of
Quest Yoga Studio, located next to Chichester Massage, was given
by Karen Kenney. We were able to take a look at her facility. It
was a beautiful area, very relaxing and a great space to perform
Yoga in. Karen also gave us a brief overview of what Yoga is and
the benefits it provides for your body.
The turnout for this
event was 15 to 20 Members. Each Member was able to interact
with one another and had the opportunity to learn about the
individual businesses and the services they offer. Everyone had
a wonderful time especially being pampered with a massage! You
can view the pictures of this event on The Greater Pittsfield
Chamber of Commerce web site at
www.pittsfieldchamber.org.
We would like to send out a
special Thank You to Chichester Massage! They provide a
wonderful welcoming atmosphere for a completely relaxing and
healing massage! They are very talented women who really pay
attention to your body and what it needs during the massage!
Pittsfield Girl May Scholar Of The Month
Jennifer Tyrell, 14, who will enter the sophomore class at
Pittsfield Middle High School in the fall, was named Francis
Wayland Parker Scholar of the Month for May.
Her winning
essay centered on Parker, a 19th century educator from New
Hampshire who helped revolutionize teaching in American schools.
He studied in Europe and came back with many ideas to improve
the rote type of learning that was being used in American
schools. Jennifer pointed out that every child learns
differently and that teachers can capitalize on their interests
by encouraging them to read books they find fascinating.
Jennifer is an all around student - standing fourth in her
class with a grade point average of 3.83. She has held the
office of Class President for the past two years, and enjoys
working with and for, her fellow students.
In the area of
helping, she formed a youth venture group called “PLAY” to raise
money for local children to attend summer sport camps which they
could not afford. In addition to supporting sports, Jennifer was
also active as a team member in soccer, basketball and softball.
Although History and English are her favorite subjects, she
hopes to pursue a career in the Science field.
The Francis
Wayland Parker Scholarship program is sponsored by the New
Hampshire Association of School Principals, in cooperation with
the New Hampshire Union Leader, Lifetouch Studios and the
Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Northern New England. Jennifer
received her award in May at an Awards Banquet held at the
Puritan Backroom Restaurant in Manchester.
Jennifer is the
daughter of Ronald and Joan Tyrell of Pittsfield. She will tell
you that her hometown is a “cool” town, it lives up to the old
saying, “it takes a whole village to raise a child.” When it
comes to a community project, everyone is right there giving
their time, pitching in and being supportive. Small towns really
have their advantages.
Congratulations Jennifer, from your
hometown.
Pittsfield Players’ Encore Stages Personals At The Scenic
Theater
The Pittsfield Players’ Encore dinner theater troupe
comes to the Scenic Theater on Friday, July 17th at 8pm, with a
great little musical called “Personals”. This is a special
one night performance for Pittsfield’s Old Home Days.
Are you
lonely? Trying to find that special someone to share your life
with? How should you act on a blind date? Come see the
Pittsfield Players’ production of Personals and you might just
learn the answers to these questions.
Personals is a
hilarious musical revue about finding that perfect person who
will make your life complete, through the personal ads.
This show is loaded with funny songs and skits that will have
you laughing through the night, and also just might bring new
meaning to your own relationship and your life.
Come and hear
the wish list of the perfect man for Hanna, Ricki, and Tina, as
they try to find their soul mates. Come see what happens to two
women who are the best of friends, always there for each other,
but can’t ever seem to find the right guy. And Sam wants to move
in with the woman he believes to be the one, but what’s really
in those bags the movers are hauling into the apartment?
Does Sam really have that much baggage? Don’t know? Ask Elaine,
Marilou, and Rene. Come hear about those mothers who are
constantly choosing the right person for their children, and how
that all turns out. You’ll be entertained and amused at all the
ways you can learn how to meet that Mr. or Mrs. Right, and
you’ll probably learn all the wrong ways, too.
The cast of
Personals includes four of your favorite Encore performers,
Gerri Casey, Lena Luongo, Ernie Bass, and Jeff Gregoire. Chris
Mega will be at the piano.
Tickets for this special
performance are only $12. To purchase tickets, go to
Pittsfieldplayers.com and click on the Ticket Leap link.
You may also reserve tickets by calling the theater box office
at (603) 435-8852.
You won’t want to miss this one
night only special performance.

The
Pittsfield Police Association Needs Your Help
The Pittsfield
Police Association is in the planning stages of National Night
Out 2009 and needs you to help us out. Last year National Night
Out garnered the interest of over 150 participants and this year
the Association is looking to make this event even bigger,
therefore we need YOU to participate.
We are looking for face
painting, DJ music, DARE vehicles, petting animals, clowns, etc.
to volunteer for our event. If you have a talent, equipment, or
an entertaining idea that you would be willing to donate for the
evening, we want to hear from you!
We are also looking for
non-profit organizations to take part in this event. In the past
we have had PYW, The Pittsfield Players, The Pittsfield Fire
Department, Law Enforcement organizations and many more
participate on this evening. If you are a non-profit
organization that is looking to help keep kids and adults off
drugs and can guide them to participate in meaningful
activities, this is a perfect opportunity to showcase your
organization. Think outside the box, have an activity for people
to do, get handouts ready, invite membership opportunities, and
have eye-catching displays.
National Night Out is Tuesday,
August 4, 2009. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime
and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and
participation in local anti-crime activities and strengthen
neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. This will
be Pittsfield’s third National Night Out. It is a quickly
growing event and an excellent showcase for non-profit
organizations, a family-friendly night out that is absolutely
free, a way to reach our youth and adults and encourage healthy
behaviors, as well as a means to encourage Police/Fire community
relations.
For more information on this event and especially
to volunteer your group and/or talent, please contact Meggin
Dail at 736-8073 or email
[email protected].
