plant tree donated by Patuckaway Nursery
Mark and Carol Davis of Pawtuckaway Nursery in Lee, NH recently
donated a Japanese Maple to Coe-Brown Northwood Academy. The
tree, which was planted in the Science Building entryway garden
by the CBNA Landscaping class on December 5, 2017, is a “Spring
Delight.” It has cascading threadlike leaves with soft green
leaves and pinkish red margins in the spring, turning vivid
green in the summer and assorted orange hues in the fall.
It will be approximately 7’-10’ when mature.
For
the last two years, the Davis family has also donated
interesting specimen trees - a weeping hemlock and a weeping
tamarack - which are planted on the grounds of Smith Hall on the
CBNA campus. Thank you to Mark and Carol Davis for their
generosity, and for helping CBNA maintain and sustain its
beautiful grounds.
Letter To The Editor
The
recycling committee is not holding meetings or involved with any
recycling efforts. The chairman has resigned his position, but
is still on the committee. This is a loss for all of us and we
should encourage them to continue with their efforts.
I
believe this impasse is due to the frustration of dealing with
the selectmen. It can be challenging to spend time on a project,
present to the board, only to get no positive feedback. That
being said, it’s important to remember that to get results, you
need to push forward.
Recycling is not as hot a topic as it was a few years ago.
Today, in most towns it’s just the way it is, recycling is the
way it is done. Everyone does it without much thought.
We,
however, seem to have misplaced the memo. There are those in
town who recycle, but there are many who don’t recycle at all.
As you all know, Northwood has mandatory recycling. This does
not mean some of the time or for just a few who want to do the
right thing; it means all of the time and for everyone.
It
is obvious that many more people are using the facility. It’s
also obvious that the attendants can’t be everywhere at once but
we who use the place are actually adults and shouldn’t need all
that much supervision to get rid of our trash. Act responsibly
and follow the rules. You are the one paying the bill. Getting
rid of our trash is an expensive proposition and we need to do
much better.
If
you have any thoughts or suggestions please let me hear them;
I’ll be around.
