The Northwood Recreation Department’s early registration deadline for fall soccer is quickly approaching. Register by August 3rd and enjoy a reduced rate and ensure a spot on the team.  Teams will fill up quickly after August 3rd and space becomes limited. The cost for 3 year olds and kindergarten is $40.00, 1st - 6th grade is $55.00.  After August 3rd there is a $10 late charge.

Are you thinking about enrolling your child in preschool for next fall? The Center School in Northwood is accepting registrations for the 2015-2016 school year. The Center School is a parent cooperative preschool located next to the town hall in Northwood, which provides a developmental program for three, four, and five year-olds of Northwood and surrounding towns. There are openings in our morning programs. Call or email us soon to get an information packet or to make an appointment to see the school.  For information, please email at director Karen Andersen [email protected] or call the school at 942-7686.  Check out our Facebook page at or our website at

Hayden was born with Down Syndrome and a Congenital Heart Condition (full Atrioventricular Canal Defect) that will require her in the next month or so to have open heart surgery. Medical expenses add up quickly even for this hard working family. Please help out this local family in this difficult time. Mike and Caitlin (Twomey) Shultz would greatly appreciate it. There will be a DJ, raffles, appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 each or $35 for a couple. Please contact Tammy Montambeault for more information or to purchase tickets [email protected] or 566-5771.

2015 Northwood Bean Hole Bash

Hope to see everyone at the Bean Hole Bash.

Please note: all parking this year will be at Coe Brown and thanks to Northwood Transportation there will be a bus shuttle from the parking lots to the town hall from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 25.  If you will have difficulty with a bus, we will also have golf carts thanks to Kingston Karts of Epsom.  St Joseph’s Church has notified us that their parking lot is closed to all vehicles and no tresspassing will be allowed on their property.

Northwood’s Oldest Citizen

If you are over 90 years young, the Northwood Board of Selectmen would like to hear from you.  A search is on to find the oldest Northwood resident. If you or someone in your family qualifies, please contact Diane Young at the town hall at 942-5586 x 214 or e-mail [email protected]

Letter To The Editor

To the Editor,

Ducks are on my mind, as in an odd duck (I’ll expound in a minute) or ducks in a row. Northwood, in my opinion, has been going through the doldrums for some time now. There has been very little or a declining business growth, a stagnant population, an academically challenged school and our student count has dropped at least a hundred. None of this has made much sense to me.

Northwood is a beautiful small town with a myriad of amenities that is centrally located between all of the larger cities in NH and who could ask for a better climate than what we all enjoyed last winter? Well the ducks are all lined up in a row to turn all of this around.

First, we have signed our SAU Superintendent and his assistant to two more years. Ms. Despres is starting her second year as our principal and has brought an energy that is fun to be a part of. As a School Board member I can say that the last two meetings were very encouraging, that we are finally talking about and moving to better educate our students. We have many new teachers that will be working with our experienced teachers to keep raising the education bar here in Northwood. Our school is on the move.

And we have Joe Gunter who, if you look at his résumé, is not your average new Town Administrator, an odd duck. Joe is already bringing an energy to Northwood that is going to move things along and make our town a better place to live. He and his wife are moving up from Maryland and are planning to purchase a house right here in Northwood, I hope that they do. Let’s all welcome Joe and his wife to Northwood.

I encourage you to join in. A very dedicated group of people have brought back the BEAN HOLE BASH. It is this weekend. Check out the flyer in this week’s Sun. Support their efforts and come out to an auction, enjoy a delicious bean supper, and dunk one of our fine police officers. Get involved, support all of the efforts being made for you and me.
