Submitted By Jan Gilman

Senior member of the Else Cilley Chapter, Norma Perkins of Nottingham, poses for a picture with Good Citizen chapter winner, Dominica Deluca, also of Nottingham, during the chapter’s annual potluck awards luncheon. Mrs. Perkins had also attended Coe-Brown Academy, a few years previously.

The else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR, of Nottingham has had a busy fall participating in the goals of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution including fostering patriotism, education, and historic preservation. In October members, prospective members, friends, and relative me to for lunch, toured the Pierce Manse in Concord, NH and held the chapter business meeting. Reports included the successful publicity and fund-raising booth held a Nottingham Day celebration in September. Funds raised support the preservation of the chapter’s historic Nottingham Square School house.

In November, the members held their meeting in Northwood and provided a potluck luncheon for their DAR Good Citizen contest candidate Dominica Deluca of Nottingham and her family. She is a senior at Coe-Brown Academy. Ms. Deluca was presented with the DAR Good Citizen medal, a certificate, and monetary award. She will complete an essay to entered into the state level scholarship competition later in the year. The chapter members also signed Christmas cards and collected personal care items and money for phone cards to be sent to troops and wounded soldiers overseas.

In December, the chapter started its first Junior American Citizens club. Members met, toured the American Independence Museum in Exeter, and had lunch. Junior American Citizen clubs foster the idea that the rights and responsibilities of  citizenship can and should be taught from an early age. The JAC program teaches America’s school children the principles of democratic government, good citizenship, and appreciation of American heritage and history. Clubs are open to all students in kindergarten through high school.

The Else Cilley Chapter does not meet during the winter months, but during that time they will be planning for another full and exiting year in 2014. For more information and for any women interested in joining DAR may contact any officer listed on our website.
