Women’s
Rugby: Cadets Prepare for National Sevens
Norwich
University’s women’s rugby team will be headed to the Division I
National Rugby Sevens Championships this weekend in College Station,
Texas.
Having
just finished their fall 15’s season as Northeast Champions, they
are now switching to the Sevens laws of the game. This is the first
time USA Rugby has hosted a national championship for Sevens and
without a matrix to determine the top seeds, Norwich was selected
for entry based on their success in the traditional 15’s game.
Sevens
is a version of rugby that utilizes just seven members of the team
on the playing field at one time. What results is an extremely fast,
high-scoring game. Coach Austin Hall likens the game of Sevens to a
"track meet with a rugby ball and open field tackles." Sevens Rugby
will be a part of the 2016 Olympic Games.
"We’re
making a dramatic shift (to the sevens laws)," said Coach Hall.
"They will be the first such games most of our players have played.
It’s funny that we’re getting this experience in the national
championship tournament."
Norwich
will face Oregon State University in their first match on Friday,
December 16 at 12:00 p.m. CST.

Letter
The Town
of Northwood has recently experienced an increase in the amount of
thefts from motor vehicles. A majority of the thefts have occurred
to vehicles that have been left unlocked. The Northwood Police
Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to
lock your vehicles even when parked in your driveway. These thefts
are crimes of opportunity and by locking your vehicle you take away
this opportunity.
We would also like to remind you that while shopping for the
holidays, remember to keep the items you buy out of sight in your
vehicle while you shop. And as always, please report anything
you see that is suspicious or out of place immediately to the
Northwood Police Department at 942-8284.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Glendon Drolet
