Santa’s Helpers

Northwood Fire-Rescue is requesting your help this holiday season to assist Northwood Santa’s Helpers to provide Christmas gifts for Northwood children who may not receive gifts this year.

Your donations will be matched to a child’s wish from forms completed by their parents/guardians.  Please note: we do not receive assistance from other organizations with similar names requesting toys and depend on local support to provide gifts to children in our community. Our donations boxes, marked NORTHWOOD SANTA’S HELPERS, will be available at local merchants the first week of December through December 18 for your new unwrapped toy or gift.

Cash donations, used to purchase winter clothing, can be mailed to Northwood Santa’s Helpers, c/o PO Box 353, Northwood, NH 03261.

If you are in need of assistance, forms are available at the Northwood Town Hall (either at the reception area or from Human Services Director Sue Holden), the Ridge Fire Station, and the Community Bulletin Board at the Northwood Post Office.

Applications are only accepted from families living in Northwood at the time of application and delivery date with children ages birth through 18 years old. We appreciate any assistance to help make Christmas brighter this year for Northwood children.  Thank you.

Fitness Matters
Submitted By Rhoda Sommer

Question: With the weather getting colder in New Hampshire, and flu season almost upon us, can you provide a little refresher on working out when you’re sick?

Answer:  Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this, but here’s the scoop. You often hear people say that working out is fine if it’s just a head cold—stuffy nose, coughing, and other stuff that you don’t like, but can deal with. This is generally true, but if you have a fever, body aches, or other more serious symptoms, you should leave the exercising to the rest of us.

This philosophy is actually pretty sound, but consider these issues as well. If your health is less than up to par, you may need all your resources to get healthy.  Exercise may take away from your body’s ability to heal quickly.  Plus, I like to workout with intensity, and I put a premium on the quality of my exercise. Therefore, I would rather rest up for a day or two, even if I just have a head cold. Then, when I get back to exercising, I can pick-up right where I left off.

CBNA To Present Winter Arts Festival

The Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Winter Arts Festival Committee is pleased to announce that this year’s festival will take place on Wednesday, December 1st.   The festival will open at 6 pm to a student exhibition of entries to The Scholastic Art Award of New Hampshire competition in the Multi-Purpose Room.

At 7 pm, the Select Chorus groups will formally open the evening followed by the Concert Chorus and a performance by the Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Drama II class.  The evening will conclude with the Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Concert Band.  Students, faculty, friends and community members are all invited.

As in the past, this special evening in the arts helps provide additional financial support for supplies and repairs that cannot be planned for in advance.  Your continued generosity is greatly appreciated. Admission is free to all participating students while general admission is $5.00 each or $20.00 for a family of four or more.
