Letter
I must say that I was pleased and impressed by some women
legislators the other night at the Deerfield Healthcare Forum hosted
by Maureen and Bob Mann. I appreciate all the communicating that
Maureen does in The Forum (www.forumhome)
so much, and applaud the willingness to open their home to their
neighbors so we can learn about healthcare reform. We, as voters
make much better decisions when we know what is going on.
Listening to my state representative Susi Nord and my congresswoman
Carol Shea Porter talk about state and federal initiatives to repair
our broken healthcare system, I was struck by their command of the
issues and proposed solutions, but perhaps even more by their
assumption that we were all adults, capable of thinking about
complicated matters, and not needing to have it reduced to sound
bites. We are not school children, nor is this Entertainment Tonight
or a gossip column. Nor is name-calling a productive policy
discussion (“socialist” appears to be the latest buzz-word.)
Theirs is an extremely difficult job, when done well, involving
balancing many different demands and needs, working with others in a
polite and positive manner, and being honest with their constituents
even when that may not bring them votes (or money for campaign
coffers). I respect and honor them for their dedication to me and
the rest of us who have felt so left behind in the past.
PS: By
the way, Medicare is government run healthcare, and there are NO
plans for euthanizing the elderly, despite what some very dishonest
people have been telling you.

Recent
Grants to Northwood Farmers Market
The
Northwood Farmers Market sign is up! Many thanks to the New
Hampshire Master Gardener Association for the grant, Sign Spectrum
and Linda Smith for the design and construction, and Meg and Ted for
putting it up. NO ONE CAN MISS US NOW!
Thanks to recent grants from the NH Master Gardener Program and the
NH Dept. of Agriculture, the Northwood Farmer’s Market has a big,
beautiful sign at the market site announcing the hours of operation.
Local businesswoman Linda Smith from Sign Spectrum designed a
new logo for the market and created the colorful, permanent sign now
standing on Route 4 by the municipal parking lot.
A new
mini-garden of perennial flowers and shrubs, designed and installed
by Master Gardener Margaret Walker and NFM market manager Meg
McGoldrick, graces the entrance to the market.
