The 2018-19 school year at Chichester Central School started with lots of smiles as a new hillside slide was installed for the opening of school.  The hillside slide replaced an older wooden slide that had become a hazard to students and needed to be removed at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.  This new slide is set into the slope of the hill on the playground for the safety of students and to allow for accessibility by all ages and abilities of students.

In addition to the slide, the playground also received a new basketball hoop for students to use, new playground equipment, and a picnic table for gathering during recess.   The slide and other additions were made possible through a variety of funding sources that had been pooled together in the last year and a half.  Chichester residents Sandra and Mike Curid donated $5,000 at the 2017 Chichester School District meeting to the school specifically targeting the purchase of a new playground slide.  The Globe Community Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation also awarded Chichester Central School an additional $2,500 for this fully accessible playground project.  Additional funding was appropriated by the Chichester School Board for the playground design and slide installation.  In May of 2018, all students at Chichester Central School took part in the first Rams-Run-4-Recess event and raised the final funds needed for the project.  For the installation of the slide portion of the playground additions, Luke Stevens of A.S.A.P Concrete of Chichester gave his time and services for proper installation of the slide and Coleman Concrete of Chichester donated the concrete material for the footings.   The slide project would not have been completed in time for school without Mr. Stevens time and devotion to the project.

Students and staff survived the heat in the first week and half of school, learning about the new comptency based grading system and becoming reoriented to the school year routine.  Families came to meet the CCS staff and to learn about all the exciting changes at school at the annual Back-to-School BBQ and open house held on Wednesday, Sept. 5.  It has been a busy start to the school year, but one that has been filled with learning and many opportunities for fun.
