NH Department of Education Deputy Commissioner Paul Leather
recently presented Dr. John Freeman, Superintendent of the
Pittsfield School District, with the New Hampshire 2015 New
England Secondary School Consortium New Hampshire Award
Champion. This award recognizes Dr. Freeman for his significant
contributions to the goals, objectives, and the strategies of
the NESSC through his unique efforts promoting and implementing
changes in instructional practices, passage of key policies, and
enhancing public engagement and support. The award was given at
the 2015 NESSC Conference.
Mark S. Kostin, Ed.D., Associate Director of Great Schools
Partnership shared: “As a long time supporter of the NESSC, I
could not be more pleased that your were nominated and selected
for this award. Your efforts in Pittsfield have been
inspirational for me and many fellow educators across the
region, efforts that have shown how to engage teachers and
community members in rethinking and redesigning education to
meet the learning needs of today’s students. And you have been
open and willing to share ideas—both those that have worked and
those that have not—as a means to help other educators better
learning for their students. Not only are the students in
Pittsfield better off for your efforts, but students across New
Hampshire and the region have benefitted from your hard work.”
