As part of the continuing “Backyard Farming” education program, the Chichester Garden Club (CGC) and Chichester Agricultural Commission (AgCom) will present the first of 2015 info-workshops “Starting Seeds” by Master Gardener Ann Lacroix on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 7pm, at Grange Hall, 54 Main Street, Chichester, NH.

Master Gardener Ann Lacroix will talk about what to plant and when, seed and potting soil choices, various starter pots and trays, heat mats and lamps and the progression of caring for your seeds until it’s time for hardening off and transplanting your little gems into their new home gardens.

Master Gardener Ann Lacroix grew up surrounded by cow fields in the 1950’s in Connecticut.  Living on a dead end road boarding hundreds of acres, she grew up playing and enjoying the woods.  Ann’s parents were outdoor enthusiasts, always heading into the wilds to canoe, camp and fish.  The family had Springer spaniels used for hunting pheasant, woodcock and duck.  It was a wild time then; people today have a hard time finding remote places to enjoy nature and feel comfortable in the woods.  A long-time teacher and Speakers Bureau volunteer, Lacroix states, “I brought my students every opportunity I could to teach them appreciation for nature.  So it was natural to embrace organic gardening methods from my background.”

Both the Chichester Garden Club and AgCom promote gardening and farming through education have partnered to create this Backyard Farming series of info-workshops, a series with something for everyone - whether you are a first-timer, amateur or veteran gardener.

To join the Garden Club, please contact [email protected] or Ann Davis 603-903-3891; meetings are held at 7pm, Town Library, the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through October.  The AgCom meets the fourth Wednesday of the month, 7pm, Town Library; all are welcome.
