The Northwood Board of Selectmen recently recognized John Stephen
Jarvis for his work at Northwood Lake Beach, which he completed for
his Eagle Scout project. The selectmen presented John with a plaque,
thanking him for the many hours of time that was donated to this
project.
John’s work at the beach included gathering volunteers and cleaning
the beach including picking up trash, cutting back overgrowth, and
raking and bagging leaves. Three picnic tables and a new beach sign
were constructed, and the shed at the beach was painted. In total,
the project cost $430 and had 424 man hours put into it.
All Eagle scouts must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, be active
in the troop as a Life scout holding a leadership position for at
least 6 months, demonstrate his ability to live by the Scout oath
and law, complete a project that benefits a school, religious
institution, or the community, have a scoutmaster conference, and
finally complete the board of review. John received his Eagle Scout
certification at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sunday, January
8th at St. Joseph’s Church Hall.
