Boyd Elected To Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall Of Fame
There is an exhibit at the Route 66 Interpretive Center in
Chandler honoring law enforcement officers who have made a difference in
Oklahoma.
Among the inaugural hall of fame inductees are early-day territorial
lawmen Bill Tilghman, Chris Madsen and Heck Thomas, who were known as
the three guardsmen.
Joining the guardsmen are Roger Webb, Richard Boyd, Bob Macy and the
late Bob Lester.
Richard Boyd, a retired Oklahoma City police lieutenant and former
State Fraternal Order of Police president, was selected for improving
officers’ working conditions and salaries.
While he admitted it was an honor to be one of the first inductees,
Boyd said it is really a recognition of a larger effort.
“I think it is important to note that not one person — not me or any
one individual — could make the advancements in the area of police
officer rights that the FOP has accomplished here in Oklahoma and across
the nation in the last 50 years,” he said. “I was elected by these
officers. They told me what they wanted done. The officers gave me the
wherewithal to get that job done, and we were a success. I was a cog in
the wheel.”
Richard Boyd is a member of the Pittsfield High School Class of
1960. He is serving as the Class’ representative on the All School
Reunion Committee.
