Hot Diggity Dog
It’s A National Night Out Block Party!

The Pittsfield Police Association (PPA) invites you to National Night Out 2009. The events will take place from 6-8 PM in Dustin Park on Main Street in Pittsfield on Tuesday, August 4, 2009.

This year, special guest and newest member of the Pittsfield Police Association, is McGruff the Crime Dog. He will be on hand to meet the public and have pictures taken with him. McGruff’s presence is due to a generous donation from Globe Firefighter Suits, Inc.

This is the third year the PPA has hosted National Night Out (NNO) and each year promises to be bigger and better than the year before. Once again, (thanks to Chris Ward) there will be a bouncy house for the kids; free fingerprint kits; meet Sparky and McGruff and have your picture taken; see a cruiser, a fire engine and DARE vehicle up close; have your face painted; collect check marks on your “meal ticket” and have dinner on us! All for free thanks to generous donations from local sponsors.

We do this all to give kids and families an opportunity to meet the officers who protect them; to start partnerships in the community giving alternatives to crime and promote neighborhood camaraderie.

This year there is a special coordinated effort by the National Child Identification Program, the American Football Coaches Association and the FBI to provide fingerprint and DNA kits to parents for the purpose of increasing child safety awareness. Thousands of children are abducted every year and strangers, according to a Department of Justice Study, perpetrate 45 percent of the abductions. With fingerprints, recent photographs and DNA samples, parents can help authorities identify these children. These kits will be available at NNO through a donation from the E.P. Sanderson Trust Fund.

Want to know how you can make this night a success? Come to the party!

For those interested there is still time to donate give-aways; set up a table; contribute a service; help set up/clean up, etc. Call Meggin at 736-8073 or email [email protected].
