Letter To The Editor
To The
Citizens of Gilmanton, I am writing this letter to officially
announce my run for one of the three-year Budget Committee seats.
Having lived in Gilmanton for the majority of my life I believe it
is an important position and one that I would take great pride in
and work diligently to deserve.
Gilmanton is where I have done the majority of my growing up. I grew
up on a small farm on a dirt road in Lower Gilmanton and attended
Gilmanton School. That was where I learned most of my lessons in
leadership and standing up for not only one’s own beliefs, but the
beliefs and rights of others. I later moved on to Gilford High
School where I carried on those values of leadership and giving
voice to those who were not able to speak for themselves. After
graduating Gilford High School I attended Simmons College in Boston,
MA, where I worked with the English Department Liaison Committee as
well as became the youngest Editor in Chief of the literary
magazine. When I graduated Simmons, a full year early, with a major
in English Writing and Literature and a minor in Studio Art, I
returned home to Gilmanton and helped with the farm, the house, and
worked two jobs. At the time I was not sure Gilmanton would be my
home. I decided to move to Denver, Colorado in the winter of 2012. I
spent almost 4 years in Denver working for various Cannabis
legalization groups and campaigns as well as being the Licensing and
Compliance Director for what is now one of the largest medical and
recreational Cannabis Centers in Colorado. I learned so much from
working in an ever growing and changing multi-million dollar
industry that it would be hard to write it all down. The main thing
would be that I became involved with city and state leaders and
began to take a vested interest in what was happening closer to home
in the communities that I lived and worked in.
How did
I end up back in Gilmanton? This is a question I get all the time
and almost every day. To me the answer is cut and dry. It’s the
easiest answer I can give: Gilmanton is my home. Gilmanton is my
family. This town has done more for me than any other city or state
could ever do. I want so much to help make this town a place where
we can all thrive. As a member of the Budget Committee I would work
hard to hear all sides of any decision that would affect taxpayers
and even future taxpayers. Long term or short term, we need to work
together to find the best solution for those who are here now and
those who will be here in the future.
I hope
that I can count on your vote in the election on March 14th because
I can think of no better way to give back to a town that has given
me so much than to give my experience, my time, and my knowledge to
that town. Thank you.
Grace
