Gilmanton Resident Graduated From Lyndon State College

Lyndon State College held its 103rd Commencement ceremony on May 17, 2015. More than 270 graduates and their families packed the tent on the Lyndon soccer pitch. Robert Shetterly gave the commencement address; Mason Brewer ‘15 was the student speaker.

Lyndon State President Joe Bertolino exhorted the crowd to “exercise an ethic of care.” Bonnie Hiladis ‘15 won the Alumni Council Award for Outstanding Senior. The processional and recessional were led by Ian McDonald ‘14 and the Catamount Pipe Band.

Emily Strese of Gilmanton received a Bachelor of Science in Education & Liberal Studies.

Lyndon State balances liberal arts and nationally recognized professional programs that integrate theory with hands-on experiences to prepare individuals for success. Nestled in northeastern Vermont, the college of 1,400 students is well known for its tradition of enthusiasm, community service, and friendliness.

The Gilmanton Community Church Food Pantry & Thrift Shop extends a sincere thank you and gratitude to Gilford High School students Marek Blais, Nick Burleigh, Lindsey Corsak, Nick VanBennecum, Allie Nault, Jillian Barton, Josie Taylor, Haleigh Patch, Drouin Brulotte and Tom Hart who participated in Community Service Day.

Students spent the morning raking, weeding, cleaning and planting. A difficult task was made much easier with so many helping hands and now our facility is much more attractive and inviting.  Good Job!  Thank You very much!

Gilmanton Food Pantry And

Thrift Shop Happenings & Events

Shelves at the Gilmanton Food Pantry are well stocked due in part to the generosity of the community by participating in the U.S. Postal Service annual food drive to “Stamp Out Hunger.”  A whopping 355 pounds of food was collected on May 9th in Gilmanton alone.  Thank you everyone who put out food for the letter carriers to pick up that day.

In June the Thrift Shop will be featuring a one half price sale for all men’s clothing in celebration of Father’s Day.  Do stop by and find something for Dad!

We will again, this year, be holding our annual Yard Sale on July 18th from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.  This is a big fundraising event for the Food Pantry and we are now collecting items for the Sale.  If you have gently used items in good condition and/or working order, please consider donating to the Food Pantry.  If you have large items, please call ahead to make arrangements as our storage space is limited.  You can bring small items to the Food Pantry during open hours, or you can call Beth Lavin at 267-1934 to make arrangements for large items.  Please, no electronics, media including tapes, CD’s and books, or mattresses.

Volunteers are still needed.  If you or anyone you know has an interest in donating two hours a week or a couple of times a month, please contact Barbara Reed at 556-9449.  Helping hands are a blessing for a worthwhile cause.  We would love to have you and you do not need to be a resident of Gilmanton to volunteer.

Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop is an outreach program of the Gilmanton Community Church.

Lower Gilmanton’s First Baptist Church’s Annual Work Bee

The Lower Gilmanton First Baptist Church is having their Annual Work Bee on Saturday, June 13, 2015 starting at 9:00 AM. Depending on the weather, general outside and inside work are the projects being considered.  If you would like to help maintain this special landmark, which is on the National Historic Register, you are more than welcome to help out.

Please wear your work clothes and bring your tool box. Many hands will make light work.  Also bring a favorite dish to share at lunch time with friends because you will work up an appetite!

Our Annual Meeting will be reconvened during the day to discuss any issues needing to be considered, such as the summer Church services schedule.
