Gilmanton Year-Round Library May Events and Schedule

 

Artist in the Library continues through May. Stop by and see the work of three generations of local Gilmanton artists including oil painting, pen and ink drawing, pencil, pastel, charcoal, watercolor, mixed media and ceramics.   Artists are Dawn Moore, her daughters Ryan Russell and Amy Russell, and Amy’s daughter Jovie Smith.

 

The Library’s annual hanging plant fundraiser for Mother’s Day is open.   For details check the Library’s website - www.gyrla.org or stop by the Library for a flier.

 

Events for the month include: 

1st - May Day Crafternoon 3-5

7th - Early Release Movie 1:15 - 2:45 (permission slip needed)

8th - Energy Share 6-9 pm

15th - Lego Club 3-5 and Crafting for the Clumsy 6-7 pm

20th - Family Movie Night - 6-7:30 pm

30th - Teen (Tween) Night - Gaming and crafts and film! 6:30-9:15 pm

Gilmanton Crafters every Tuesday,  1:30

Story Time every Wednesday 10:30 & Thursday at 1:30

Magic the Gathering every Thursday 6-8:30

 


 

Gilmanton Corner Library Celebrates Children’s Book Week!

 

Children’s Book Week, May 11 – 17, is the national celebration of books and reading for youth. In 1913, Franklin Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America began touring the country to promote higher standards in children’s books. He proposed creating a Children’s Book Week in the belief that children’s books and literacy are life changers. Established in 1919, it is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country. 

 

Children vote for their favorite book of the year from January to May. Last year over 900,000 kids voted these books their favorite books for 2013!

 

Grades K-2: Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet by Robin Preiss & Nighttime Ninja by Barbara DaCosta, Grades 3 & 4:Bad Kitty For President by Nick Bruel, Grades 5 & 6: Dork Diaries #4 – Tales From a Not So Graceful Ice Princess by Rachel Russell & Diary of Wimpy Kid #7: The Third Wheel by Jeff Kinney, Teen: The Fault of Our Stars by John Green. Stop by the Corner Library and take out your favorite book!

 

Reminder: Summer hours begin May 1: Mondays & Thursdays 2-8, Wednesdays & Fridays 2-6, Tuesdays 2-4 or call 267-6200 to request or reserve a book or pick to up a  free pass to one of three museums.

 


 

Gilmanton Women’s Club

 

The next meeting of the Gilmanton Women’s Club will be held at the home of Sally Carpenter, 481 NH Rte 140 Gilmanton, NH, on Monday May 5th at 1:30 p.m

 

The Gilmanton Women’s Club was formed in 1971, with a mission to raise funds for the benefit of Gilmanton’s townspeople, and local organizations.
