Gilmanton Corner Library Celebrates Children’s Book Week!
Children’s Book Week, May 11 – 17, is the national celebration of
books and reading for youth. In 1913, Franklin Matthiews, the
librarian of the Boy Scouts of America began touring the country to
promote higher standards in children’s books. He proposed creating a
Children’s Book Week in the belief that children’s books and
literacy are life changers. Established in 1919, it is the
longest-running literacy initiative in the country.
Children vote for their favorite book of the year from January to
May. Last year over 900,000 kids voted these books their favorite
