Poets and Photographers Highlight Special Places In
Gilmanton
Lauren Dean’s photo of Crystal Lake was selected for an
award from among the many remarkable pictures taken by Gilmanton
students following a field trip to explore the Town’s scenic and
historic places.
The Gilmanton School, in cooperation with the Gilmanton Land Trust
and its “Gilmanton’s Greatest Views - For Everyone Forever”
campaign, organized a field trip for sixth graders to explore
special places in the town.
Following the trip, students submitted poems expressing their ideas
on important times and places in Gilmanton. Others submitted
photographs of their favorite Gilmanton scenes.
At a school assembly on December 19, the students’ work was formally
recognized. John Dickey, of the Gilmanton Land Trust Board of
Trustees, congratulated the students for their outstanding work.
A selection of the photographs will be exhibited in the Gilmanton
Academy Building, and included in a calendar prepared for 2014.
The Land Trust found the poems of remarkable merit, and rather than
select a winner, chose to specially recognize twelve of the poets
for their work. Those twelve were:
Grade 6: Tommi Butts, Melody Davies, Michael Eisenmann, Abbie
Fillion, Jennie Gannon, Joey Laurendeau, and Emily Waite
Grade 7: Mitchell Juneau, Samantha Knowles, Jacob Malburne and Molly
Vallee
Grade 8: Victoria Skelley.
Photographers receiving awards are: Lauren Dean, Noah Presby, Emily
Kordas, Rachel Williams, Cian Brown, and Mariah Gardner.

Gilmanton Corner Library Celebrates Clifford’s 50th Birthday!
Clifford, the Big Red Dog is a children’s book series that was
written by Norman Bridwell and was first published in 1963. The
series helped establish Scholastic Books as a premier publishing
company. There are over 44 million copies of his books and many are
translated into other languages.
Clifford, the runt of a litter of puppies, was chosen by a city
child named Emily Elizabeth as her birthday present. No one expected
Clifford to grow, but Emily’s love for her tiny red puppy changed
him dramatically. Before long, he was over 25 feet tall, forcing the
Howard family to leave the city and move to the open spaces of
Bridwell Island. There he meets many new dog friends: Cleo, T-Bone
and KC.
Read about Cliffford, the Big Red Dog and his many adventures at
the Gilmanton Corner Library where we have over 25 books and DVDs.
