  Hand-Pressed Glass Ornaments Available At

The Gilmanton Corner Public Library

Gilmanton ornament.JPG

To celebrate the Gilmanton Corner Library’s 100th anniversary, we have available for sale New Hampshire hand-pressed glass ornaments in shades of blue, green and amber. Each ornament has the design of the historic library building and the date of 1912. We will be 100 years old in January, 2012. Also included with the hand-pressed glass ornament is the history of the Library.

Chris Salmon, the craftsman of these ornaments, hand presses the ornaments using recycled glass with centuries old techniques that give each piece an odd character not found in machine work. These ornaments will enhance your windows as the sun shines upon them casting a sparkle in your room.

Stop by the library to purchase your ornaments for Christmas or birthday gifts. The ornaments are especially thoughtful for those who brought their children or grandchildren to the library as youngsters.

The library is open Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to noon. We are conveniently located at the entrance to the Town Offices on Route 107.

A Gift Idea At Gilmanton Year-Round Library

Looking for that perfect gift for someone who has everything? The Gilmanton Year-Round Library has an idea for you. For a gift of $25 the Librarian will select a book to add to the Library’s collection. A bookplate will be placed inside the front cover with your name, or the name of the person you designate.

The "Buy A Book" program is a great way to support the Library and receive recognition for your support. The program supplements the Library’s modest budget for books, DVDs and audio books, allowing the Library staff to develop the collection to meet the interests of its patrons.

For information, pick up a brochure at the Library, or contact the Librarian at 364-2440 or by email at [email protected].

Letter

Gilmanton Residents:

On 12/13/11, I had the opportunity to attend the Gilmanton School District Board meeting wherein much discussion took place around the Superintendent’s recent submission of proposed budget cuts.

During these discussions I recalled a recent article (Laconia Daily Sun 12/02/11) reflecting the fact that the Gilford School District’s proposed budget had been reduced by nearly $300,000 from last year. However, what really got my attention was the reported fact that the Gilford School Board "stepped up to the plate" and will receive no stipends this budget year. I must add the Gilford Board of Selectmen also voted to forgo its member stipends.

Gilmanton’s School District Board member’s salaries amount to $6,025.00. How many new books could the Gilmanton School purchase for that amount?
