Week And Earth Day Celebrated At The Gilmanton Corner Town Library
Across the
country, families are facing tough economic times. People are visiting their
libraries more often and checking out items with greater frequency. National
Library Week, April 11-17, is an annual celebration of the contributions of
our nations libraries and librarians. This year’s theme “Communities Thrive
At Your Libraries” we had “Fine Forgiveness” for library users who brought
in two cans of food for the Food Pantry
.
We
celebrate “Earth Day” April 22 with craft activities and books. Earth Day is
a day to reflect on our planet, our environment and what we can do to keep
them healthy.
Plan a visit this
month to the Gilmanton Corner Town Library, Wednesdays, 3-5 and Saturdays,

Gilmanton
Fire Dept.
On Saturday March
13, 2010, at 1:36 PM, the Gilmanton Fire Department with automatic response
departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 554 Meadow Pond
Road.
At 1:46 PM Car
One arrived on the scene and reported nothing showing from a single family
two and one half story wood frame structure. There was however one occupant
on the roof of the house. Upon further investigation the structure was found
to have a smoke condition on the first and second floors. At that time the
occupants were all moved to a safe area outside.
At 1:54 PM a
first alarm assignment was requested due to the fire in the attic area.
At 2:09 PM the
fire was placed under control and confinement of the occupants was
confirmed. There were no injures to either civilians or firefighters, the
estimated damage to the home is approximately $25,000.00 The structure is
uninhabitable and the family has made arrangements to stay elsewhere. The
cause of the fire was a chimney fire that cracked the chimney causing
extension to the attic area of the structure.
The, Belmont Fire
Department, Barnstead Fire Rescue, Laconia Fire Department, Loudon Fire
Department, Pittsfield Fire Department, Chichester Fire Department, and the
Loudon Police Department assisted the Gilmanton Fire and Police Departments
at the scene. The Alton Fire Department covered the Gilmanton Fire
Department.
