The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society Books At The
Gilmanton Corner Library
The Gilmanton Corner Library will take part in the “Lakes Region Reads”
project featuring the book, “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie
Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The book is about the
remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the World War II German
occupation told through the letters of islanders, and of the society as
extraordinary as its name.
Sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council the Gilmanton Corner
Library has received 5 copies of the book. The project will include
discussions, lectures, cooking programs, a dance and events focusing on the
contrast between the home front in New Hampshire during World War II and the
home front today. The events will take place at different locations
throughout the lakes region starting October 1 through November 9.
The Gilmanton Corner Library will have a display of World War II posters
and World War II books. Please stop by and pick up a copy of this excellent
book, recipe for Potato Peel Pie and a schedule of events.

My name is Elena Ball and I met Frank Guinta at the Dover GOP campaign
headquarters opening recently. We had the opportunity to speak and I must
say I was very impressed! I’ve been volunteering for the Jim Forsythe
campaign (State Senate in 4th District) for months and have found it to be
fulfilling, especially when he won the Primary. That’s what got me to the
opening that evening.
I watched the NHPR TV debate the other night, Frank, and you ROCKED!!
The highlights for me were when you answered Ms. Shea Porter’s question re:
taking government funding for your college education with a resounding “No,
I did it all by myself”. As you probably noticed she had no come back.
Secondly, when you were able to insert in your talking points that Ms.
Shea Porter isn’t in touch with the people, touched me deeply. When you and
I talked in Dover I told you how I’d sent a few letters to Ms. Shea Porter’s
office over the past couple of years to let her know how hurtful the
policies of the present administration are for her fellow Americans and New
Hampshire folks. I told you her response was myopic and self absorbed
because, although she thanked me for contacting her office with my thoughts,
she believed her ideas and Mr. Obama’s policies are best for the country.
So, essentially, it doesn’t matter what her constituents feel or say. Her
agenda is what matters. PLEASE don’t let that ever happen when you are
elected! We need a voice in Washington; not just another sheep following the
flock.
I believe you are the right man for the job and whole heartedly support
you and how you stand up for “the people”. Best wishes on November 2nd!!
Regards,
Elena Ball

Lower Gilmanton First Baptist Church Annual Work Bee
The Lower Gilmanton First Baptist Church is having their Annual Work Bee
on Saturday, October 16, 2010, starting at 9:00 AM. Walking the Church
property lines and general maintenance are the projects being considered. So
if you would like to help maintain this special landmark, which is on the
National Historic Register, you are more than welcome to help out.
Bring tools you think you might need to work up an appetite. Many hands
make light work! Please bring a dish to share at lunch time.
Our Annual Meeting will be reconvened during the day to discuss any
issues needing to be considered. In case of rain, come on Sunday, October
17, 2010, with the same agenda in mind.

A New Voice for Gilmanton
Please join me in electing Deb Chase as Gilmanton’s next State
Representative.
Deb is an excellent communicator and has the skill and energy to listen
to Gilmanton’s needs and to carry them to the State House in Concord. I know
she has the dedication to complete whatever she begins.
She has been an active member of our community, helping to support the
Food Pantry and serving on the Historic District Commission where her
questions are always pertinent and perceptive.
Now, more than ever, we need a highly effective organizer like Deb Chase
in support of our community.
I enthusiastically endorse Deb Chase for State Representative.
