Don’t forget the Gilmanton Farmers’ Market will be open until Columbus Day - so another month of great foods and local items. Every Wednesday 3-6 p.m. at the Town Hall just North of Gilmanton Four Corners, intersection of 140 and 107. Remember Dump Day is Market Day.

Gilmanton Corner Public Library

Three signed books were just donated to us by the author, J. P. Polidoro. You will find them on the New Arrivals shelves under the titles of Project Samuel, Rapid Descent and Return to Raby. Jack Polidoro is a local author who lives in Laconia, and we thank him for these gifts.

September and October are our culinary mystery weeks along with a new cookie and recipe each week.   Don’t forget to come in for your cookie and take out one of these mystery books.

In keeping with the new school year, we have a display of a huge apple for the teacher along with appropriate books.

Free museum passes are still available for members and families for the SeeScience Center and Currier Art Museum in Manchester, and the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord. Enjoy taking the children to the museums while enjoying the fall colors on the way!!!

Winter hours at the library will begin Wednesday, November 4 from 3:00 to 5:00 and Saturday, November 7 from 10:00 to noon. These hours will continue through the end of April. Hours will be posted on the door as we will be closed on the different holidays that come throughout the winter.

Our next book/bake and daffodil bulb sale will be Saturday, October 10 from 9:00 to noon. If you have trouble with deer eating your plants, deer do not eat daffodil blossoms!!!

Gala Celebration Opens Gilmanton’s Year-Round Library

The Gilmanton Year-Round Library will formally open to the public at two o’clock on Saturday afternoon, September 12. Following time for music from the Wacondah horn quartet, a slide-show of the history of building the library, and refreshments, the formal program begins at 2:30.

The ceremony will feature:

Story of the building of the Library,

Presentation of a preservation award by the NH Preservation Alliance,

Performance of Readers’ Theater by six 4th graders from the Gilmanton School,

Isa Tetreault and Jessica Stone, Vision of the Library, (both high school sophomores, written when they were in 4th grade.)

Poems by former Gilmanton students Seamus Kirwin and Grace Sisti, both now college students,

Unveiling of a painting of the Library by Gilmanton artist Larry Frates and,

Future plans for the Library in our Community by Head Librarian Gary Mason.

Before a formal ribbon cutting, a flag that has flown over the Capitol in Washington, donated by Senator Judd Gregg, will be raised on the flagpole, given in memory of Nicholas Cournoyer.  Priscilla Leavitt, direct descendent of the family that built the barn in North Hampton, NH, will cut the ribbon.

Everyone who attends will receive a “First Edition” library card, enabling patrons to check out books on opening day. The Library will be open to the public and free to all Gilmanton residents.
