The Gilmanton Year-Round Library To Open Soon

The Gilmanton Year-Round Library will be opening soon!  Thanks to a onetime gift from an anonymous trust, the Library on Rte 140, across from the Gilmanton School,  will open its doors to provide essential library services to the town.  A search committee is working diligently to hire a librarian to begin work in the coming months.

In addition to a children’s room, reading room, study loft, adult books, audio books, daily newspapers, magazines, DVDs and CDs, the full service library has six free public access computers, wireless internet (bring your own laptop and enjoy the facility), inter-library loans (providing you access to any library book in the state). The Association expects to welcome community groups to meet at the library, and will hold library-related programs for children as well as adults. The Association looks forward to coordinating these and other  activities with the existing Gilmanton libraries to provide great opportunities for all residents in town.

Thanks to many generous donors, foundation grants, in-kind materials and services from a number of local businesses, and hundreds of hours of volunteer work by skilled crafts-folk and shovel and broom workers, the Gilmanton Year-Round Library building has been completed and furnished entirely with private funds.

The Association continues to plan fundraising events to support the library. Upcoming fundraising events include,  the 4th Annual Garden Tour on July 25th which this year includes artisans in the gardens, and  on October 17th – tours of the cir. 1665 Farley Garrison House and outbuildings,  the beautiful property owned by Doug Towle on Frisky Hill!

Stay tuned for more Grand Opening details in the weeks ahead!  Check the Library’s website at www.gyrla.org. For more information or to become a volunteer with this wonderful community project, please contact President Elizabeth Bedard at 528-1896.

4th of July In Gilmanton

The 4th of July is upon us and preparations for Gilmanton’s annual celebration are under way. Both the Parade AND the Fireworks will happen on Saturday, JULY 4TH, 2009!
Red, White, Blue & GREEN! This year for the FIRST time the G4JA and the Town Transfer station are making a real effort to capture our recyclables. Please look for special containers and the Recycle-mobile to deposit your plastic bottles, paper & aluminum cans, etc. Please help the G4JA save the Town money and reduce our carbon footprint!!!

The GYO has again graciously accepted the monumental job of putting out all the food for both events. This is one of their larger fund raisers for the year to help build the playing fields on Allen Mills Road. So please belly up and partake in their homemade fare. Other Gilmanton organizations may also be pitching in with sales tables at both the Parade and Fireworks. Please call us for availability if your group would like to participate.

Saturday, July 4th schedule is as follows:
PARADE Line-up is on High street at 9:30 with the Parade starting down Rte 107 at 10am. Start planning those floats now and any other group or individuals may walk in the Parade. The Judges are prepared to hand out the Awards!

PLEASE NOTE: Please look for slight CHANGES TO THE PARADE ROUTE around the corners. There are safety concerns regarding traffic patterns. The G4JA and the Gilmanton Police Department are trying to resolve this and we’ll keep you up to date on any changes.

FIREWORKS will set off at dusk at Crystal Lake Park in the Gilmanton Iron Works. Parking is free and any donations will gladly be accepted at the gates. Come early, park opens around 6:30 p.m., and enjoy some food and live music.

Reserve your sales table space now ($15 per table) and BYO table/chair, etc. If you would like to make a donation to the Gilmanton 4th of July Association you may send your Check directly to: Gilmanton 4th of July Association, PO Box 411, Gilmanton, NH 03237. OR look for the donation tubs at the Town Clerk’s Office, the Corner Store or the Iron Works Market.

If you have any other questions and/or would like to participate in this year’s celebration, please call Kristie or Steve Owens at 267-6434.
