Lower Gilmanton Church Annual Work Bee

The Lower Gilmanton Church is having their Annual Work Bee on Saturday, June 6, 2009, starting at 9:00 AM.  General inside and out building work are the projects being considered.  So if you would like to help maintain this special landmark, which is on the National Historic Register, you are more than welcome to help out.

For more information call Bob Potter Jr. at 435-8738.  Bring tools you think you might need to work up an appetite. Many hands make light work!  Lunch will be served courtesy of the Lower Gilmanton Community Club.

Our Annual Meeting will be reconvened during the day to discuss any issues needing to be considered such as the summer Church services schedule. In case of rain come on Sunday, June 7, 2009, with the same agenda in mind.

Gilmanton Year-Round Library Receives Preservation Award

The Gilmanton Year-Round Library received a preservation achievement award from the NH Preservation Alliance for revitalization of a 1790s barn.

The New Hampshire Preservation Alliance has honored the Gilmanton Year-Round Library Association with a Preservation Achievement Award for “outstanding revitalization of a 1790s barn.”  Stanley Bean, clerk of the works for the project, accepted the award for the Association at the Alliance’s award event on May 12.

The barn, now hosting the Town’s first year-round full service library, was in jeopardy of demolition when the Year-Round Library Association purchased it in 2004.  The building was dis-assembled and reconstructed on the Library’s site opposite the Gilmanton School on Route 140 in Gilmanton.  Since then, the barn has been transformed into an energy efficient library building, furnished, and prepared for service to the citizens of Gilmanton.  The building project was completed entirely with donated funds and in-kind contributions from businesses and volunteers.
