The Lakes Region Youth Opera along with their directors, Jane Cormier and Carlos Martinez, will be providing the musical selections for the Thanksgiving Service, held in The Smith Meeting House, November 23, 2008, at 4:00pm.


A Thanksgiving Service will be held in The Smith Meeting House. The Smith Meeting House is the first and oldest church, in Gilmanton and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The First Congregational Society in Gilmanton invites all denominations to attend the traditional Thanksgiving service.


The sermon will be given by our interim minister, The Reverend Sidney Lovett, of Holderness, NH, a well known theologian, scholar, and a man with a good wit.


Following the service, there will be a “Pot Luck Supper”.


The Smith Meeting House is located on Meeting House Road, off route 140, between the Iron Works and Gilmanton Corner Village, in Gilmanton, NH.
 



Reminder

The annual Christmas Fair, sponsored by the Women of the First Congregational Church, Main Street, Pittsfield, will be held this Saturday, November 22nd, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A great assortment of handmade, items of all kinds, baked goods, gourmet gifts and the popular corn chowder are among the things being offered.

 


Obituaries


 

Peter F. Swain


Gilmanton -
Peter F. Swain, 55, of Rollins Pond Road, died November 10th  at the Concord Hospital following a long illness.


He was born in Laconia, the son of Walter and Delia Swain and lived in Pittsfield for most of his life, moving to Gilmanton 3 years ago.


He was a trained machinist, had been employed by the NH Hydrolic Co. in Merrimack, and later by the Leighton Machine Company in Manchester.


He retired as a lens polisher at the NH Optical Company in Concord.


He was a former member of the Manchester Elks Lodge and also the North American Hunting Club.


He is survived by his wife Julia (Munsey) Swain of Gilmanton; a son, Peter F. Swain Jr. of Gilmanton; 2 daughters,  Jennifer Kearns of Pittsfield, and Heidi Ellsworth of Epsom; 5 grandchildren, Joshua,  Baily and Cameron Ellsworth, Cassidy Kearns and Ryan Swain; a brother Walter L. Swain; and a sister, Donna Chase, both of Tennessee; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Swain; and a sister, Marylee Swain. 

 
Funeral Services were held at the Perkins & Pollard Memorial Home, Pittsfield, on Friday, November 14, 2008.


The Rev. Henry Frost, Pastor of the Loudon Center Freewill Baptist Church  officiated.
Burial will be at the family’s convenience in the Riverview Cemetery, Barnstead.
