The Epsom Public Library
hopes that the third time is a charm. We scheduled the movie
Victoria and Abdul in January and February only to have snow storms
those two planned days thus closing the Library. So we are
going to try again and show the acclaimed film on Wednesday, March
14 at 1:30. Dame Judith Dench stars as Queen Victoria.

To my constituents in
Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week my committee
finished most of its work on House bills. Weunanimously recommended
to the House HB 1273, allowing VA doctors towork in New Hampshire
facilities without getting a NH license, on VApatients only; HB
1571, creating an impaired nurse program similar tothe existing ones
for doctors and dentists; HB 1421, clarifyinginspection requirements
for event tents; HB 1684, simplifyingbackground checks for EMT
licenses; HB 1530, clarifying criminalbackground checks for allied
health professionals; and HB 1603, addingan employee representative
to the pension system investment committee.
More contentious bills
included HB 1623, debarring vendors for wagetheft, safety
violations, or misclassifying employees, which passed15-3; HB 1315,
prohibiting university funds from being spent opposingunions, passed
12-6; and HB 1818, which changed various licensingcrimes from a
misdemeanor or felony to a violation. A motion to passfailed, 8-8,
and then we voted 14-2 to send it to interim study. I hadan
amendment to HB 1685, which created a commission to
reviewoccupational licensing, to simplify the process; it was not
adopted,8-9, with Representatives Brewster and Schuett opposed, and
then thebill was killed, 9-8.
HB 1757, which would
delay the 10% drop in pensions from age 65 to 67,to correspond with
the age for full Social Security, cost $45 millionfrom the pension
system, which would be paid by employers (taxpayers.)The committee
amendment changed the payout plan so that the pensionwould be
unchanged throughout retirement, giving an equivalent lumpsum
instead. This was felt to be preferable to the drop in thepension.
It was passed, 15-4, with me in the minority.

I believe Virginia Drew
is the best candidate to be the next Epsom Select-person. She has
worked tirelessly on many other town boards and committees over the
years and, having gained valuable insight into town processes, is
ready and able to take on this role.
She is a very positive
person, easily engaged with an open ear for all concerns presented
by her constituents. Perhaps most importantly, she does not
have a personal agenda which can be so counterproductive in small
town politics.
Please join me in voting
for Virginia on March 13 and help Epsom continue to be a great town
to live in.

Letter To The Editor
This letter is in support
of Virginia Drew for Epsom Selectman. I feel Virginia’s involvement
in the community, past and present, will make her an asset to one of
the most important political positions in our town.
If elected, Virginia has
vowed to do her part in making discussions and decisions of the
Selectmen as transparent as possible and will welcome input from the
citizens of the town. I feel Virginia will make her decisions based
on what is best for the town as a whole. Please join me in
supporting Virginia.
Also on the 2018 Epsom
Warrant Articles, Article #5 shows that the Highway Department is
requesting “$75,000 to purchase a used heavy duty truck with
equipment.” I would encourage a “NO” vote on this article.
Three years ago, the
Highway Department received a great deal on a 50 year old grader,
the taxpayers paid only $4000. To date, the taxpayers have spent in
excess of $45,000 in repairs and maintenance on this one piece of
equipment. Also, it should be noted, since this grader was
purchased, the majority of road grading is still being performed by
a private contractor using a privately owned grader.
The Epsom Highway
Department consists of one employee. It would make more sense to
hire a private contractor with a, “heavy duty truck,” for the few
times one would be needed. This would also leave the fuel,
maintenance and repair costs to the owner of the vehicle.
The taxpayers of Epsom
cannot afford another “great deal.” Vote “NO” on Article 5.

Story Times: Mondays

caregivers listen to stories, sings songs and enjoy crafts. March

To the Residents of
Epsom:
As a former Selectman I
take my time understanding issues and getting to know those who are
running for the position. After much deliberation, I have made the
decision to support John Klose for Epsom Selectman.
I have had the pleasure
of serving on the Budget Committee with John’s opponent, Virginia
Drew. Virginia is smart, creative, and open to new ideas. At any
other time, I would be supporting her run for this position.
However, our town is in a precarious position. There are many things
going on within departments of Epsom that go back many years and
involve numerous departments. Much of these issues is coming to a
head soon. John Klose has served with me on the Board of Selectmen
and he knows the history of the departments in town.
John’s experience as a
Selectman, NH State Representative, an HR Director, and a Police
Officer give him the expertise and experience we will need in the
next few years to properly deal with the issues and make changes
that will keep everything in line.
Please get out and vote
for John Klose.

Dear Residents of Epsom:
As you may know, I am
running for Selectman in Epsom. Since I am retired, I have
the opportunity to spend most of my time in the community listening
to the concerns of residents. The number one issue on everyone’s
mind is TAXES.
My leadership skills,
partly gained through my experience as a Human Resource Director for
Audley Construction, will help Epsom’s need for strong leadership
through the challenges that lie ahead of us.
We must also focus on
Planning and Zoning to bring in new economic development.
I have served as a
Selectman in Epsom, a State Legislator for six years, and a Police
Officer for 27 years. I understand the law and am not afraid to
enforce rules and policy. Managing taxes takes experience,
accountability, and discipline, of which I have all three. Residents
should know what their taxes pay for. Being in the Legislature for
six years, I understand the importance of transparency.
If you believe in these
values, I would like your vote and your friend’s vote. Election Day
is March 13, from 8:00 AM -7:00 PM. I look forward to working with
the other Selectmen. See you at the polls.

On election day, March
13, I shall be voting for Virginia Drew to be a member of the Board
of Selectmen. As a long time Epsom resident Virginia has been
involved in many aspects of town and school affairs. She has ably
served as a member of the budget committee, as a the school board
member and as a library trustee.
At the state level she is
the director of the Visitors Center. In this position she is
knowledgeable in the workings of the state government. She conducts
tours for children from all over the state, as well as those from
all over the country and the world.
I hope that Epsom voters
will join me in electing this caring and capable person as a
selectwoman.

Election Day is Tuesday, March 13th from 8 am to 7 pm at ECS
gymnasium. I would appreciate your vote for me, Virginia Drew,
for Selectman.
My husband and I chose to
make Epsom our home 34 years ago and raised our children here.
I have attended every annual town and school meeting since moving
here and have always kept up on the issues that face our residents.
I am dedicated to public service and have always been willing to
give my time to work for our community. I have served on town
and school boards, building committees, town improvement plans,
worked on the creation of the Jeremy Charron Baseball Field, the
Cutter Athletic field, and a founding member of the Friends of the
Library and EYAA.
I believe in community
involvement and want to continue to serve Epsom. I am proud to
be a part of this wonderful town!

Letter To The Editor
Next Tuesday, Election
Day, will be my last day as an Epsom Selectman. As I step away from
this position after over six years, I feel that it is important to
express my gratitude to many people.
First, and foremost, are
my fellow Selectmen, Hugh Curley and Chris Bowes. Never, in my
opinion, has Epsom had two better public servants than these two men
directing the affairs of our town. Neither has a personal agenda
other than doing what is best for the residents of our great
community.
It is also important for
me to thank the wonderful employees who day after day do what is
needed to keep the wheels of government turning to the benefit of
our residents.
Finally, I want to thank
all the people in Epsom who have entrusted me to this important
office. Your support and advice over the years has been a blessing
and I have really appreciated it. As the town moves forward after
the election with a new Selectman in place, it is my hope that
residents will continue to step forward to help keep this town one
of the best towns in New Hampshire.
