REMINDER
On Friday night, December
7th, from 6:00-7:30 pm, the Epsom Bible Church youth group will be
holding a kids’ Christmas Mini-Mall at 398 Black Hall Rd. in Epsom.
Children ages 3-11 will be able to shop for their parents, siblings,
and other family and friends. The children will pick out their
gifts and wrap them while their parents enjoy refreshments.
All gifts are $1.00. We hope to see you there for this fun

Epsom Public Library is
having their annual “Polar Express Event” on Friday, December 7th at
6 pm. Come decorate cookies, enjoy the Hot Chocolate/Coffee
bar courtesy of “White Mountain Coffee,” and watch the movie! Join
us for the fun, wear your pajamas, and don’t forget your
pillow/blanket. Please call the library at 736-9920 to make a
reservation!
Evergreen Lodge #53, Ivy
Green Lodge #36 and friends are offering digital photos with Santa
on Saturday, December 1st at the Epsom Public Library from 10:30 am
to 1 pm. There will be crafts for the children, cookie decorating,
refreshments and a Christmas tree raffle. Suggested donation of
$5.00 for a picture. Plan to join the fun and help with local

Ocean’s 8 is the movie
for the November 28 matinee at the Epsom Library at 1:30.
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchette and Anne Hathaway star as a team of
unstoppable crooks who plan to pull off the heist of the century.
Their goal is New York City’s annual Met Gala and a necklace worth
more than 150 million dollars.

Dear Epsom Residents,
As Epsom residents and
parents of one child, we believe that the best education for our
daughter and the rest of the youth in our town includes full day
kindergarten. So much more is expected of the curriculum than
when we were children and we should provide the children the best
chance possible to succeed.
For my husband and I, we
work with our 2 year old daughter frequently by reading, doing
puzzles, flash cards, building blocks, etc and also have her
enrolled in a play based learning program. We do want her to
be able to have the best possible educational outcome and also have
that come from the community we live in. We are fortunate and
have worked hard to have the means to provide a full day education
for her even if that means sending her outside our community for
kindergarten. However, every family is different and as a
community we should consider our children to be our future and we
believe in providing the best opportunity to all children in our
community, not just our daughter.
Let’s level the playing
field for all children. Please consider casting your vote to
support full day kindergarten.

Granite State Brotherhood MC Food Drive
The Granite State Brotherhood MC Food Drive held on
Saturday, November 10th, to support the Epsom, New Hampshire Food
Pantry was a great success. Just about 800 pounds of food as well as
$570.00 in cash was raised. As promised, 100% of everything
collected was delivered directly to the Food Pantry by end of day.
Those volunteering at the Food Pantry explained that this was a
“huge” contribution when compared to others they often receive.
Granite State Brotherhood
MC would like to thank the Cook’In At the Circle restaurant for
allowing us to use their location to host the Food Drive. We would
also like to thank the greater Epsom community for coming out and
supporting this event on a very cold and windy day. Many thanks to
The Suncook Valley Sun newspaper for including announcements of the
Food Drive in editions leading up to the event as well as the New
Hampshire MC community for coming out and supporting this effort.
Thank you to all who
worked together to help those in the community who may be in need of
a helping hand over this upcoming holiday season. Granite State
Brotherhood MC will always do all we can to support our neighbors in
the greater Epsom, NH community.

Epsom Food Pantry
Good Morning! Well, by
the time you read this our wonderful Thanksgiving Baskets will be in
the hands of our members. We have been some busy this week, but at
this time I want to thank a whole bunch of wonderful people who have
contributed to the success of this endeavor: Miriam Cahill Yeaton,
Armand Claris, Davis Fuels of Epsom, Pembroke Friends of Football,
the American Legion Post of Epsom, the folks of Chichester Massage,
Ms. Patty Mitchell, the group from the Concord Hospital facility in
Epsom, those super guys from the Granite State Brotherhood, Boy
Scouts of America from Concord, and the Hackleboro Orchards.
Many of the above not only gave us food, but money, too. Thank
you from the bottom of our hearts.

Epsom Resident Celebrates 95 Years!
Mary Orff, of Epsom, recently celebrated her 95th birthday
surrounded by her family, at the home of her son Eric Orff in Epsom.
The joyful celebration was filled with laughter and food – two
common themes of Orff gatherings. Much of the food was prepared and
provided by Mary as always! Mary’s great and enviable memory was a
catalyst for much of the laughter as she shared stories from her
long life. This included the story of how she followed her older
sister to school at age 4 and became a first grader. Hence, she
graduated, with honors, from Cony High School in Augusta, Maine, at
age 16.
In addition to Eric and
his wife Janice, also attending were Mary’s daughter Nancy and other
son, Alan with his wife Cathy, as well as the families of all three
of Mary’s children, including adult grandchildren and several great
grandchildren. Mary even had a surprise visit from her nephew Bill
Dunn and his wife Gail from Augusta, Mary’s birthplace on November
8, 1923.
Mary remains the center
of this close-knit family and although we gather frequently, Mary
declared this to be her “best party ever!”
Obituaries
Alfred G. Bickford
EPSOM- Mr. Alfred G. Bickford, 85, of Epsom, passed away
at home on November 11, 2018 after a period of declining health.
Born in Concord, Al was
the son of the late Alfred and Helen (Brown) Bickford. A
lifelong resident of Epsom, he was a graduate of Pembroke Academy
Class of 1951 and later graduated from the New Hampshire Technical
Institute in Manchester.
Mr. Bickford was a
Veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country for
eight years during the Korean Conflict and beyond.
He was employed as a
production engineer for Sprague Electric and Aerotronic and later
founded his own business, Bickford & Son. He later went on to
work in the maintenance division of General Electric from which he
retired.
Mr. Bickford was the
twice past master of the Corinthian Lodge No. 82 F&AM in Pittsfield.
He was also recognized in 1974 as Epsom’s Citizen of the Year and
was a past Captain of the Epsom Volunteer Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his
son, Howard Bickford, who passed away earlier this year.
He is survived by his
beloved wife of 64 years, Joyce (Allen) Bickford; his daughter,
Mary-Jane Bickford of Epsom; and his son, Mark Bickford of Loudon.
He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2
great great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was
held on Friday, November 16th in the Still Oaks Funeral &
Memorial Home in Epsom. Burial will take place at the
convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in
his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce
