“The Pink House” is the movie at the Epsom Library on Wednesday Oct 10 at 1:30.  Based on a true story of a group of working class neighbors as they struggle to save their homes from political and corporate interests that want to seize the land for a large corporation.  Suzette Kelo emerges as a reluctant leader to fight officials and their power to bulldoze the neighborhood.  The case went all the way to the US Supreme Court and eventually led to reforms that helped curb eminent domain.

Paul Famulari, Headmaster, Joshua Gifford (Class of 2020).

In June, Joshua Gifford (Class of 2020) represented Pembroke Academy and the state of New Hampshire while attending the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston.

Joshua was surrounded by many fellow high school students from across the nation who share his passion, ability and potential. Joshua had the privilege to learn from some of the world’s greatest living minds in medicine, including Nobel Prize winners, founders, inventors and chief executive officers. Joshua was nominated by his teachers at Pembroke Academy for his outstanding achievement in science. Students must meet several criteria for admission to the Congress:

● They aspire to become physicians, scientists or technologists

● They possess a 3.25 GPA or above (current or cumulative)

● They possess and demonstrate leadership potential

Joshua was recently presented with an official Award of Excellence, certifying his successful completion of the Congress. “Pembroke Academy is proud to celebrate Joshua for his participation in and achievement at the Congress. We are fortunate to have students like Joshua who aspire to broaden their knowledge and explore innovative ideas in related STEM subjects ,” said PA Headmaster Paul Famulari. Joshua is also an integral member of the school’s VEX Robotics program, which has gained regional, state and world class notoriety in the past few years.

Letter

To the voters of EPSOM and PITTSFIELD,

We are fortunate to have, in Miriam Cahill-Yeaton, an excellent candidate for one of two District 21 State Representative seats. As a veteran Air Force officer and nurse practitioner, Miriam knows how to organize and get things done. Her personal integrity, clear-mindedness, and diligent work ethic make her a sure-fit for the job of considering the implications of state policies on our communities.

Miriam has a “can-do” attitude in response to opportunities and challenges, but is not reactionary. She takes time to consider topics from multiple points of view and will listen to the concerns of ALL of her constituents. Miriam will represent Epsom and Pittsfield fairly. She has personally knocked on nearly every door in Pittsfield and Epsom, taking time to have genuine conversations with residents about what matters most to them.

Miriam is a true humanitarian who cares deeply about the welfare of others. Her priorities of affordable healthcare, equitable public education funding, and a living wage among others, reflect her determination to make government work for the people. Miriam Cahill-Yeaton will serve our communities well! She has my vote on November 6th and I hope that she’ll have your vote too!

Meghan Miriah (Demers) Fontaine

Epsom Meg crop.jpg

Our beautiful Meghan passed from our embrace, on Wednesday, September 26th, taking her place in the heavens to watch over us, residing in our hearts and souls as the irreplaceable rainbow she was, from the moment she arrived. Born to Peter and Dawn Demers, at her family home in Loudon, Brandon’s little sister, on June 4, 1984 on a beautiful morning that evolved into a spectacular day, where a double rainbow appeared from a clear blue sky.

Meghan attended school at Merrimack Valley and went on to work in the hospitality industry. She dedicated her work self to Makris Lobster & Steak House and would be recognized as the smiling face many would see on a regular basis, a family, in and of itself.

She spent much of her time in Epsom, settling into her new home with her husband Jason and their kids, Kyleigh and Bryce, nestled in near her family and an amazing network of friends and neighbors. This was her pride and joy. Happy kids, gardening, softball, basketball in the front yard, anything that involved Jason and the kids was her first love and interest.

She leaves behind, everything and everyone including her loyal companion Bear. We are grateful that she left this world as she came into it, at home, snuggled into her bed, having drifted away in her sleep. Her selfless, kind, funny, hardworking, passionate, strong-willed presence was a joy to us then and is our foundational rock now. She will be missed, beyond what any words can portray, but can be found reflected in each of us who were lucky enough to be in her orbit.

Here to carry on, remains her husband, Jason Fontaine and children Kyleigh Dawn and Bryce Peter, father Peter Demers of Epsom, brother Brandon Demers and his fiancé Niki Valdez of Pembroke,  mother and stepfather Dawn and Earle Cate of Loudon and siblings Seth & Renda Cate of Gonic, Elizabeth Cate of Hardwick, VT and Ella Cate & Kris Price of Virginia, Jason’s mother Diane Fontaine of Concord and siblings, Shawn Fontaine of Concord, Randy and Wendy Fontaine of Epsom, Kelly & Sean Kennedy of Litchfield and her many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, colleagues and neighbors.

A service will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 12:00pm at the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom. Relatives and friends may gather prior to the service at 11:30am and following the service until 2:00pm. A celebration of life will be held from 3-5pm at Makris Lobster & Steak House, Concord. Memorial donations may be made to the Epsom Youth Athletic Assn. (EYAA).
