Wednesday, October 4 at
1:30 PM, the Epsom Public Library will be showing the movie “The
Hero.” Sam Elliott stars as Lee Hayden a veteran actor of Westerns
whose career’s best years are behind him after his one really great
film, “The Hero.” Now, scraping by with voice overs for commercials,
Lee learns that he has a terminal prognosis of pancreatic cancer.
Estranged from his family, Lee can only brood alone as troubling,
yet inspiring, dreams haunt him. Things change when he meets
Charlotte Dylan, a stand-up comedian who inadvertently jump-starts
his public profile and Lee must finally come to terms with both
realities when he finally confesses his situation to the one person
he can. (citing imdb) This film is rated R.
Dual Exhibit At Epsom
Public Library
Barrington artists Diane
and Ron St. Jean are pleased to present some of their artwork in two
simultaneous displays at the Epsom Public Library.
Diane’s collection of
paintings is titled “The Inner Landscape.” Diane’s abstract
paintings are mementos of time spent in nature. They invite the
viewer to experience quiet landscapes of the imagination,
meditations on color and light, or impressions of weathered
surfaces.
Strokes of color are
layered and scraped, a physicality of gesture that belies the small
size of the paintings. The intimate scale brings the viewer in
close. Looking becomes an unhurried transaction, like reading a poem
or searching for sea glass.
The paintings were
created using a stick form of oil paint on Arches Oil Paper, a paper
specially designed for oil painting.
Ron’s collection of
photographs is titled “Pretty Common Things.” Ron likes to
photograph ordinary objects and familiar scenes in a way that
suggests a story, or reveals details that may not be noticed at
first glance. Ron photographs digitally, and prints using archival
inks and papers.
The exhibit will be on
view from October 5 through November 25 during regular library
hours: Mon – Thurs., 10 am to 7 pm, Sat., 9 am to 1 pm. There will
be an opening reception on Saturday, October 7, from 1:00 to 3:00
PM. All are welcome!

Epsom Food Pantry
Well Good Afternoon Epsom
Friends. The Food Pantry doing well with orders still coming in and
our usual donations. All is well.
I talked with Ken today
and he has received notification that we have to start getting a
count for the Thanksgiving turkeys. Can you believe that? Where did
the summer go?
Now let’s get a few
things straightened out. When you order a turkey, please make
arrangements to pick it up. In past years when it gets to to the
time to shut down and we still have a load of boxes, we get nervous
and I have to get people to help me call people and remind them.
Not going to happen anymore. If you order one it’s your
responsibility to pick it up.
Now to the people who we
have to help in getting their food, we will see that you get yours.
For those of you who do not know, along with the turkey comes a box
of a lot of wonderful tradional Thanksgiving fare. So please, if you
sign up, come and get it.
The final date for sign
up is OCTOBER 21st. There is a sheet in the Pantry for you to sign
and if you absolutely cannot get there, call me at 219-3025.
I do hope no one thinks I
am cross, but when those turkeys don’t get picked up, we have a
problem keeping them frozen. They are big and take up a lot of
space.
So with that I shall sign
off.
Until next time,
Priscilla
