Epsom NH News

March 15, 2017

The Suncook Valley Sun News Archive is Maintained by Modern Concepts. We are NOT affliated in any way with the Suncook Valley Sun Newspaper.

On Wednesday, March 22 the Epsom Library will be showing the film A Man Called Ove at 1:30 PM.  Tom Long of the Detroit News said that the film is a “touching, funny and engrossing epic of ordinary life.”  Ove is a “grumpy old man” still grieving for his wife when a boisterous young family moves in next door.  His solitary world is upended while memories come flooding back making us remember that life is sweeter when it is shared.

Letter

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week I had the pleasure of presenting my HB386, on technical corrections to the education tax credit, to the Ways & Means committee. With no opposition and support from the department of revenue administration, they immediately voted, 21-0, to recommend it to the full House.

The House meets for two days this week, and I’m writing after Wednesday’s session. We debated and approved several marijuana bills, adding chronic pain and PTSD to the approved conditions and decriminalizing the possession of small amounts. My committee recommendations were all adopted, with some debate on HB184, the licensing of medical imaging technicians; and HB584, increasing the retirement age for new hires. HB599, establishing an ombudsman office, was tabled before the debate.

Election law had a number of bills, largely supported on party lines. HB320, establishing an automatic redistricting process, was debated and defeated, 184-161, with the comment that it was trying to take politics out of an inherently political process. HB372, defining “resident” consistently, was vigorously debated because some members want people to be able to vote here without taking on the responsibilities of a resident, such as registering a car here and paying taxes. It passed, 188-163. HB622, allowing anyone to vote absentee, was also debated before failing, 200-145, on competing claims of voter turnout.

Epsom Food Pantry

Good Morning, everyone! Well, it is still chilly, but when you read this hopefully it will be warmer. Also, it’s voting day, and as good citizens you need to head to the Polls. I shall be there helping the Supervisors.

Well, it has been a busy week. We were gratefully appreciative of a large contribution from the Epsom Bible Church.

I have been thinking it is time for me to start my yearly nagging for our fresh vegetables for the summer. You will be planting before you know it and I humbly ask you not to forget the Food Pantry. Our members look forward to those wonderful veggies as many folks do not have the space for a garden.

Again, thank you, Epsom, for your support.

Until next time,
Priscilla

Spring Clothing Swap

In an effort to help manage the cost of clothing for our community families, the Epsom Bible Church will be holding a free clothing swap on Saturday, June 3rd, from 9-12 noon at Epsom Bible Church on 398 Black Hall Road in Epsom.

Swap will run from 9:00-12:00 noon.

You do not need to make a clothing donation in order to take clothing for you and your family. Call Joanne Randall at 344-8843 for more information or if you are interested in volunteering.

You may bring donated clothing beginning at 8:30 am. Clothing donations are not accepted prior to the event.

All clothes need to be clean and in good repair, and separated by size and gender. No rips or stains please.

Both adult and children’s clothing are accepted. No toys, equipment, or furniture please.

Clothes will be sorted and distributed to tables by the person dropping them off.

Once clothes have been sorted and distributed, you are free to begin gathering clothing in the sizes you need.

Any clothing left at the end of the swap will be delivered to a local charity drop off site. We need volunteers for set up and break down, includes moving of tables and bagging clothes. Thank you!
