Epsom Boy Scout Troop 80
Fundraising Dinner
The Epsom Boy Scouts
Troop 80 will be hosting a camp fundraising dinner on October 20,
2017 at the Epsom Firehouse from 5 - 7:30 PM.
We will be serving
homemade Chicken Parmesan over spaghetti, salad, bread, a drink,
dessert and coffee. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $3.00
for children under 10 and $5.00 for adults & children 10 and over.
Take out dinners will be available for those who wish to support our
Troop but cannot stay.

“The Capital Crimes of
Witchcraft” is the program being presented at the Epsom Public
Library October 18 at 7:00 PM. NH Humanities To Go awarded a
grant to the library to have Margo Burns offer her program
about the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692 and 1693. The
program is free and open to the public.
The movie matinee on
Wednesday, October 25 at 1:30 is “Going in Style.” This comedy
stars Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin and Michael Caine. Desperate
to pay their bills and support their families, three lifelong
friends risk it all by conspiring to make a plan to knock off the
very bank that absconded with their money.
Benefit Concert for
“Breast Cancer Awareness” on Saturday, November 4th at 7pm.
Evergreen Lodge #53 (Odd Fellows Hall), 1198 Short Falls Road,

Epsom Food Pantry
Good Morning,
Everyone!
All is well at the
pantry. I want to send out a special thanks to all our gardeners for
the bounty of wonderful veggies we received at the pantry. It was so
appreciated by all.
Now to my special
subject, TURKEYS. We need a count by October 21st as we have a
deadline for reporting. If you are having a problem getting to the
pantry, call me at 219-3025 and I shall direct it to the proper
folks.

Toddler Time: New Time!
Wednesdays 10pm. Join us for stories, songs, movement activities and
a craft.
American Girl “Luau” Tea
Party: Saturday, November 4th 1:30pm Girls and their guest are
invited for an afternoon of fun. Wear your favorite outfit and bring
your favorite doll and be prepared to “hula”. Seating is limited so
sign-up is required. The sign-up sheet will be out beginning October
11th. Refreshments will be finger sandwiches, tea breads, desserts,
tea and punch. A craft activity will be included. We will have
a drawing for the newest American Girl doll, “Nanea.” Tickets are
$1.00 each or 6 for $5.00
Teen Movie Friday,
October 20th 6:30pm: Transformers: The Last Knight The movie is
rated PG 13 and pizza and drinks will be provided. Donations of
snacks and desserts are appreciated. For more info about any of

Letter To The Editor
It’s been a funny fall!
Three frosts downtown and none on the mountains. Lots of geese and
turkeys and coydogs!
We will be doing some
grading and paving on hills to take care of some of the drainage
issues.
By the time you read this
letter, we should have already poured the floor in the garage. Just
can’t describe how wonderful!
Things around Town – the
American Legion will be putting on a free lunch for Veterans and
their families on Veterans Day!
The farmers have had
great weather for chopping corn this fall. The banking
protection on the river is in full swing which will make the water
cleaner downstream. The water line project at the Library is
just about complete.

Letter To The Editor
The Trump administration
aided by Republican Congress is doing all they can to sabotage the
Affordable Health Care Act aka “Obamacare.” The worst damage is
creating “uncertainty” for health insurance companies. For all
insurance coverages, “uncertainty” equals higher risk, higher risk
is synonymous with higher premiums.
Other dirty tricks are:
1. Major budget cuts for navigating and implementing the 2018
marketplace, which will make all those good things we all like, fail
2. Sept 30 Congress did not reauthorize Childrens Health Insurance
Program (CHIP) 3. By fiat, Trump reversed policy which will
now allow the employers to deny some birth control methods,
including intrauterine devices, essentially declaring employer’s
religious values more important than the employee’s.

Obituaries
James Jackson “Jack” Aikins
James Jackson “Jack”
Aikins passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2017 at the age of 84.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his
independent spirit and wonderful sense of humor.
Jack was born March 29,
1933 to Edith (McLaughlin) and Jackson Aikins in Lynn,
Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Aikins, and
his sister, Cynthia Whalen.
Jack graduated from Lynn
Vocational High School in 1951 and joined the National Guard before
marrying Patricia Darsney in 1957. They lived in Kingston, NH until
1971 when the family moved to Epsom, NH. Jack worked as the head
mechanic for Edmunds’ Trucking Co. from 1958 to 1983. He was
an active member of both the Fort Mountain Trailwinder’s Snowmobile
Club, where he worked to maintain trails, and the local 4-H club,
where he taught woodworking skills. Jack and Pat divorced in 1989,
and he moved to Pembroke, NH. Jack worked for D.J. Salyer’s
Trucking Company, and then spent 13 years hauling heavy equipment
for the R.C. Hazelton Trucking Company until his retirement in 1998.
In retirement, Jack
renewed many interests. He joined a candlepin bowling league and
enjoyed bowling competitively again. He bought a 1997 Harley
Davidson Road King and joined the Concord HOG Chapter, where he
served as Road Captain for several years. He also became a
member of the Plausawa Valley Country Club in Pembroke, where he
enjoyed golfing with friends regularly.
Jack is survived by his
loving companion of 16 years, Lydia Henderson, as well as his three
daughters, Dawn Kim (and husband Tae), Laura Hatfield (and husband
Ben), and Melissa Potter (and husband Bob Jr.). Jack was a proud and
loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Katie Martin (and husband
Mike), Carl Potter (and wife Julia), Samuel Potter, Eric Potter,
Hadriane Hatfield, Myah Hatfield, Ethan Kim, and Justin Kim. He
recently welcomed his first great grandchild, Abigail Martin.
A celebration of his life
will be held at 2pm, Sunday, October 22nd at Gilmanton Corners
Church in Gilmanton, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
in his memory to the Concord HOG Chapter’s Charity Fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
