In One New Hampshire Backyard
The Epsom Public library is pleased to present “In One New Hampshire
Backyard,” the stunning nature photography of Barbara
Sinclair-Pappas.
Barbara E. Sinclair-Pappas is a self-taught nature photographer,
having augmented her skills through local workshops. During her
career as an early-childhood educator, she first used a digital
camera to record the spontaneous experiences of her young students.
Once retired, Barbara focused her lens on the yard and gardens
surrounding her home in Chichester NH, where she has lived for
twelve years. A collection of these images can be found in her
self-published book: In One New Hampshire Backyard.
Barbara has been amazed at the wealth of wildlife she continually
discovers so close to home! Since the day she happened upon an
inchworm curled into a question mark in the center of a flower, she
has been fascinated with the intimate nature of close-up
photography. With the life’s quick pace, she loves being able to
pause and explore the unexpected details her camera captures in a
fleeting second. Barbara is excited to share the enthralling world
that photography has opened up to her and hopes her images inspire
others to explore the nature found around their own homes.
The exhibit runs through September 20, and may be
viewed during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 am
to 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. For more information, call
736-9920 or visit

Letter To The Editor
Let’s continue our quick guide to the Republican Primary. Even
through there are ten (!) names on the ballot for US Senator, there
are only three serious candidates: Scott Brown, Jim Rubens and Bob
Smith.
For me this is the most difficult race to decide. All three of the
candidates have their share of pluses and minuses. Although the
logic escapes me, the front-runner appears to be Scott Brown. While
he was born in New Hampshire, his entire political career was in
Massachusetts. The apex of that career was a brief stint in the US
Senate when he won the special election following Ted Kennedy’s
death. He is an able campaigner and extremely good looking. I’ve
heard Scott speak a half-dozen times, and while each talk was almost
entirely content-free, he could easily be a pleasant surprise in
office.
Jim Rubens is the activist’s activist, and a very likeable guy. He
is a former State Senator with a lot of accomplishments, including
championing charter schools. He successfully led the charge to keep
casino gambling out of New Hampshire. He appears to have closed the
money gap with Brown, so he is serious. Jim’s energetic and would
get things done in Washington, but he seems to have no inherent
belief that some problems are best not handled by government.
Bob Smith is the former US Senator from NH. He’s been out of
politics here for ten years, much of which time he lived in Florida.
He’s the most conservative candidate, with a stellar voting record
while in office. On the other hand he’s been running a very negative
campaign (a mistake in my opinion), and seems to be a little past
his sell-by date.
Take your pick!

Epsom Food Pantry
Well I missed last week but my life sometimes gets a little
overwhelming and my weekly article got lost in the shuffle, but we
are doing just super at the Pantry. We were the recipients of milk
from Market Basket and we were able to share with a couple of other
Pantries, church and some needy folks.
One of our Freezers bit the dust and we were so lucky to have one
donated by The Kitchen family in Epsom. Also a wonderful monetary
donation from Karen Reese. We are just so lucky to live in Epsom
and have such wonderful generous neighbors. And oh boy we are
getting some great veggies from our Epsom gardens. We now have 50
families in our Pantry so all the donations we get are greatly
appreciated. We get free food from USDA and we buy at a greatly
reduced price from Manchester Food Bank along with free selections
also so when groups, churches and the general public give to us we
are grateful as we feed quite a few folks now and we all are HAPPY
to be a part of this endeavorto help our families in need.
Until next time,
Priscilla
