Epsom Town Band Concert

The second band concert of the season will be held on Friday, July 18th, at 7:00 p.m. at Webster Park.  The band has been rehearsing for several months to provide this free concert series for young and old.  It’s a great opportunity for families to gather and enjoy an “old-fashioned concert in the park.”  Mark your calendars, invite your friends and family, and plan to attend!  In case of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for Friday, July 25th.

On Wednesday, July 16th at 6:30 pm the library will show “The Lego Movie” rated PG. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. A “Mad Scientist Party” will be on Monday, July 21st at 6pm. Wear your lab coat and join us for some fun science experiments, crafts, and snacks. Sign up at the circulation desk or call the library at 736-9920 as space is limited for this event!

Epsom Public Library News

J. Dennis Robinson, will discuss “Under the Isles of Shoals,” on Tuesday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m..  Mr. Robinson writes books about American history from his office in historic Portsmouth.   A popular columnist and lecturer, he operates the award winning Web site SeacoastNH.com with fresh content posted (almost) daily.   His presentation examines the ongoing archadological dig on Smuttynose Island with almost 200 pictures.

The sign-up for “Literary Elements,” the summer reading program for adults, continues. Be sure to sign up in order to be eligible for weekly drawings for some great prizes.  For each book you read, just fill out a coupon and put it into our fish bowl.  You may also fill in a brief book review to be placed on our bulletin board.  Please remember: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMMIT TO READING A CERTAIN NUMBER OF BOOKS.  Read whatever you wish.  Weekly drawings began July 14.

Artist Flo Parlangeli’s work is currently on display at the library through July 26.  Originally from New York, Ms. Parlangeli grew up as a dancer and with a love of the arts.  After raising her family and pursuing her profession in advertising, she painted for pleasure, often land and seascapes. Most recently she has taken up Plein Air painting on the coasts of Florida, New Hampshire and Maine, producing dramatic original oil works.

Concurrently, in the display cases, is the jewelry of Judy Bush who has been interested in and worked with beads ever since as a child she observed her mother stringing beads in bed in the evenings (in the days before television!) Her items are rich in color and texture, and she enjoys creating ones that are free form with no set vision of the finished item.  Since retirement from UNH Cooperative Extension, she can be found four days a week at the Bead Bush Studio on Mt. Delight Road in Deerfield.

Epsom Food Pantry

Well, summer is in full force and the Pantry is going just fine. We look forward to the fresh veggies that will soon be coming in.

This week was just a banner week for us as the Elks Lodge has donated a tidy sum to us.  We will be receiving it in food and those wonderful folks took a list of our most needy items and went shopping. Quite a sight when it was delivered and so so appreciated. A picture will be forthcoming for you to see. Now remember if you cannot get to us, just call and we will deliver. We do not want anyone going hungry.

Until next time,

Priscilla
