Get Fit NH Celebrates Sixth Anniversary
Owner Dean Carlson Pens Heartfelt
Letter Of Gratitude To Clients And Staff
On May 8th, 2008, a dozen brave souls gathered in Dean and Nancy
Carlson’s Epsom backyard at 4:45am. Under a halogen lamp attached to
a basketball backboard they completed the first ever training
session at Get Fit NH. There weren’t a lot of “tools,” no SkiErgs or
TRX or even kettlebells.
According to Dean, while they may have been lacking in equipment,
the group was well equipped in more important ways. “We had the
determination that by showing up and working hard we would get
better. We could get stronger and leaner. We learned about our
bodies, and how to better feed them and take care of them. We could
laugh together, and cry together, and love together. We could be
family in the best sense of the word. Banding together, encouraging
one another and helping one another. Realizing that all of us are
better than just one of us.”
In celebration of the anniversary, Dean Carlson wrote a heartfelt
letter of gratitude to clients that also appeared on the Get Fit NH
blog. In it, he wrote that the attitude of those who gathered in the
predawn hours six years ago continues today. Get Fit NH is not about
the physical locations and training equipment. Get Fit NH is and
always has been about one thing: people.
In his letter, Dean expressed his gratitude for his clients, his
staff, and his wife and business partner, Nancy. “I am so grateful
to our clients who have adopted my kids and made them part of the
crew. I am grateful that Anne in Concord persistently and
consistently encouraged me to break out of my comfort zone and find
training space in Concord.” The gym now has two locations, the
original Epsom facility and a larger one on South Main Street in
Concord.
“How blessed we are to have such an amazing team in Concord. I can
be confident trainers Erin Constantin, Meagan Sbat, and Sarah
Gahagan are taking good care of our clients when I cannot be there.
Nancy is the glue that makes the whole thing stick together. All
that you see is because God graced me with the best.”
Get Fit NH’s clients return the deep feelings of gratitude. On the
blog and on Facebook, response after response echos the sentiment.
Laurie V. of Epsom wrote, “The fact that you and Nancy care about
all your clients shines through always. I’m happy I’m part of the
Get Fit NH family.” Jennifer H. of Bow added, “I am so incredibly
proud to be part of the Get Fit family! When I count what I am truly
thankful for it is near the top of the list. I could never express
what my coaches and the Get Fit family mean to me. Happy
Anniversary!”
In a gesture typical of their focus on others, Dean and Nancy marked
the anniversary by awarding Dan Yeaton of Epsom, with the first six
year “Hall of Fame” award. Dan was one of the brave souls to work
out on that very first early morning 6 years ago and continues to
train at Get Fit NH.
Get Fit NH has been named Best Gym in Southern NH five consecutive
times from 2010 to 2014. Their success is due to their continuous
drive to do what it takes to make their clients better. Call

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
No legislative action this week, so I’m reporting on some of the
bills I submitted this year. HB608, allowing farmers to sell home
grown and slaughtered poultry and rabbits to restaurants, not just
consumers, has passed the House and Senate and is on its way to the
governor. This is important because New Hampshire farmers can
produce these small animals very cost effectively, and there’s a
great demand for fresh, local meat. However, until HB608 passes,
restaurants aren’t able to buy them unless they are federally
inspected - and a $5 per bird inspection fee makes it unfeasible.
This started as my bill, but both Representatives Alan Turcotte
(Allenstown) and Guy Comtois (Center Barnstead) worked on it more
than I did, since they are on the Agriculture Committee. That
committee was so proud of the work they did on this bill that the
Chair asked the Governor to have a ceremonial signing, to show her
support for the small farmers. She declined, but I don’t think a
veto is likely.
HB1626, on eligibility for the reduced fee companion animal
spay/neuter program, is also on its way to the governor. This is a
simple bill explaining that low income is the only criteria to be
eligible for the program, not receiving the specific welfare
programs listed.
HB1300, which I submitted on behalf of a constituent, allows people
to sell their own vegetable or flower seeds without having to get a
seed seller license, is also heading to the governor. There had been
no lower limit for the license, so HB1300 exempts the first 25
pounds of seeds from both the licensing and testing and labeling
requirements.
