families, the Epsom Bible Church will be holding a free clothing
swap on Saturday, May 12th, from 9-12 noon at 398 Blackhall Road in
Epsom.
You may bring donated clothing beginning at 8:30 am. All clothes
need to be clean and in good repair, and separated by size and
gender. Both adult and children’s clothing are accepted.
Clothes will be sorted and distributed to tables by the person
dropping them off. Once clothes have been sorted and distributed,
you are free to begin gathering clothing in the sizes you need. You
do not need to make a clothing donation in order to take clothing
for you and your family.
Any clothing left at the end of the swap will be delivered to a
local charity drop off site. Volunteers for the clothing swap would
be appreciated.

refreshments, come on down.

Honoring Memorial Day
The Epsom Public Library invites you to an evening honoring Memorial
Day on Wednesday, May 23rd, at 7:00 pm. Boy Scouts will participate
in leading the Pledge of Allegiance and in demonstrating the proper
way to display and fold the American Flag.
Following a brief history of Memorial Day, our guest speaker, Miriam
Yeaton, will talk about her experience as a nurse in the U.S. Air
Force from 1981 – 2001.
Geri Veroneau, singer and musician, will lead the audience in a
Sing-a-Long of patriotic songs, including ones going back to the
Civil War. After some poetry readings, we will recognize and honor
any veterans present, and the program will end with Geri leading us
in "God Bless America."
We invite and encourage all veterans and their families to attend.
There will even be red, white, and blue refreshments! We hope you
will join us as we honor this special holiday.
Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
This week the House continued committee work, and I presented SB314,
on use of state vehicles, to the Ways and Means Committee. They
seemed a little disappointed that the bill as it came to them did
not include over a million miles a year of "personal" usage, paid to
the state at 55 cents a mile. That’s because my committee had
exempted state business miles that the IRS classifies as "personal,"
including taking emergency response vehicles home because you’re on
call overnight!
My committee looked at SB311, regulations for the Weights and
Measures Division. This bills has changed drastically since it was
introduced, by two Senate amendments and a House amendment. We
discussed whether the director should be a "classified" or
"unclassified" position, since the scope of duties didn’t seem to
warrant being an unclassified position. These are usually
commissioners or other top-level appointees. We finally agreed on
"classified". Police powers were discussed, but no real conclusion
reached; I’ll have to look into it further.
Finally we debated the vexing issue of oil tickets. Many heating oil
dealers and about half the propane delivery services in the state
use older delivery trucks that can’t automatically calculate the
total price and any discounts. This is more work for those companies
with many price levels and different discounts; some of them hand
calculate the bill, others just hand write the price per gallon on
the bill, and a few simply report the gallons delivered. These
latter groups send an invoice with the details.
The committee was divided as to whether or not the laws should
mandate the full pricing on the ticket (as the department’s rules
require), just the price per gallon (as the law currently demands),
or allow customers to request an invoice or not.
