Letter

Our sincere thanks go out to Dick Frambach and his cadre of volunteers for their work on Epsom’s Historic Meetinghouse. We strongly support ongoing renovations to the building. We need to make sure this wonderful resource becomes a usable space for the town and hope that the voters will recognize its potential for town offices. We also hope the town will authorize the requested $25,000 to continue the work.

Wesley Demers Benefit Dinner

Wesley Demers has been a resident of Epsom, NH for almost 60 years. He is a fuel delivery driver for Irving Oil and Propane. He has been delivering the same route for almost 40 years.

Wesley was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Osteosarcoma, in early 2011. In July 2011, he had surgery to remove the cancer. The doctors told him the outlook was good.

Unfortunately, Wesley found out shortly before Thanksgiving that the cancer has come back and is very aggressive. Before Wesley got sick, his wife, Darbie, was running a daycare from home which she has had to stop doing so she can take care of Wesley. Wesley has been out of work since his surgery and living off of his short term disability.

Wesley is a wonderful and caring person who would give everything and anything he could to help out family, friends or neighbors. Because of this, many of his friends and family had decided to get together to have a benefit dinner.

The Benefit Dinner was held on January 28, 2012 at the American Legion in Epsom - Post 112. It was a huge success. We would like to thank everyone who donated, participated, planned and/or sponsored this event.

All the money from the dinner went straight to Wes and his wife Darbie to help pay medical bills and other living expenses.

If you were unable to attend the dinner and would like to make a donation please send it to:

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:

This week the House met to finally finish 2011 bills. HB445, on the regulation of electronic tracking devices, had been recommended to be studied further. But the sponsor convinced us that we should ban tracking people via cell phones, GPS devices, or mobile computers, without their permission, before there was a problem. We voted 158-183 against killing it, then 293-53 to amend it slightly, and passed it on to the committee on Criminal Justice. HB138, on the cold case homicide unit, kept the unit active, but required the department to fund it with gifts, grants, and unspent funds from other operations. It passed, 254-93; I voted against it because this unit should be funded honestly and openly. HB574, repealing the post 9/11 law that allows taking of private property during a state of emergency, passed 257-87. HCR2, supporting the Arizona immigration law, passed 243-102 with even the Speaker choosing to vote in favor of the bill.

My committee met to hear HB1378, exempting pharmacy technicians from the laws on drug possession, which was amended to clarify the law and HB1379, creating a committee to study increased regulation, which was recommended to be killed as there is no demonstrable need for it. HB1316, on continuing education for electricians, revealed a timing problem between license renewals and code updates, so it went to subcommittee to work out the details. HB1317, on certifying electricians as fire alarm installers, was recommended for interim study since there were conflicts between the fire officials and the electricians testifying, so we’ll have to sort them out. HB1142, pulling the electricians’ board out of the Fire Marshal’s office, went to subcommittee to sort out the best policy choices.

Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, which has more details than I can fit in a letter.
