I want to thank my supporters, contributors and the 2,988 voters of
District 29 who voted for me. The most fun was canvassing
door-to-door. Only 2 rude people, everyone else, it was a absolute
pleasure meeting you.
I wish my opponent, Carol McGuire well during the next 2 years.
Although we disagree politically, I do like her as a person and she
does keep her constituents informed thanks to the Suncook Valley
Sun. An extra thank you to SVS for printing so many political
letters to the editor. You do a great public service.

To our constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
Thank you for your votes! Both of us were re-elected, and John
Reagan won the State Senate seat. The other Representatives elected
are Mary Frambach of Epsom and Alan Turcotte of Allenstown. The
House will be organizing in December to elect a new Speaker. Since
the Democrats gained the majority, Carol will probably not be a
committee chair this session, and so will have time to work harder
on her bills. The final filing period for 2013 legislation starts
next week, and we’re working on the details of bills to submit. Any
constituent with a request for legislation can call or write us this
month.
The committee on defined contribution pension plans met one last
time to make our final recommendations. The majority of the
committee voted to recommend a basic defined contribution plan, with
employer contributions set to be about what we contribute to vested
employees in the defined benefit plan and some controls to minimize
costs for the participants. The minority thought the issue needed
further study, and seemed to favor the hybrid or cash balance plans,
as having less impact on the defined benefit plan. Since it is a
complex issue, and the actuaries don’t agree on the fiscal impacts
(all depending on the assumptions they make!) Carol believes that
any legislation for next year would be extensively studied.
Interested readers can email Carol for her newsletter, with more
details than fit here.

Response To Voter Fraud In Epsom
I can assure you that there is no voter fraud in the Epsom Clerk’s
Office. My office made an honest mistake. We do not discriminate
between parties. The General Election application does not require a
party to be selected. Republican, Democrat and Undeclared voters
receive the same absentee ballots.
We had two sets of voter instructions. We had one set of
instructions for the UOCAVA voters; military and overseas citizens
temporarily residing outside the United States. These voters use a
paper ballot and make their choice with an X. We had another set of
instructions for the regular absentee ballots. These voters
completely fill in the oval on their ballot. The actual ballot also
lists the appropriate instructions on how to mark your ballot.
The UOCAVA instructions were mistakenly photocopied and placed in
the envelopes for a few of the regular absentee ballots. We
received a phone call asking if the voter was to mark an X or fill
in the oval on the ballot they received. As soon as that call was
received, we realized our mistake and sent the correct instructions
with the rest of the absentee ballot requests. There were very few
instructions that were sent out incorrectly. If a ballot was not
accepted by the voting machine, the ballot would be hand counted.
