New Rye Church Celebrates Its 250th Anniversary – Grand Finale!
Submitted By Dorene Young, Church Secretary

After a year long celebration of the semiquincentennial of its founding, New Rye Union Congregational Church in Epsom will culminate its celebration this weekend with a series of events. On Friday 9/23, there will be a service of commemoration and celebration held at the church beginning at 7 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship after the service.

On the following day (9/24), the church will hold a musical celebration at Webster Park located at the junction of Rte. 28 and Short Falls Road, Epsom.  A variety of music is planned, including inspirational music, Irish tunes and the fiddling of Jimbo Pero. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and a free lunch, including hotdogs, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, rolls, drinks and desserts, will be served at 1 p.m. (attendees are advised to bring their own lawn/folding chairs).

On Sunday 9/25, a very special celebratory worship service will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m., which will be followed by refreshments and fellowship in the parish hall. “Reverend Jim’s” sermon that morning will be based on the same scripture selection used at the installation service for the Rev. John Tucke (the first pastor called to Epsom on 9/23/1761).

An open invitation is extended to area churches and to the public at large to attend any or all of these celebratory history events. For more information or directions, please call Rev. Jim (Young) at 736-9279 after 7 p.m. or email the church at [email protected].
