Artisans New Members
On May 21st and 22nd we had our Spring Open
House and it was a great success! We are very grateful to the
local residents who have been our most loyal customers these past 30
seasons.
We would also like to announce some new members. First,
Mike Driscoll has been a consignor for a few seasons and has decided
to become a member. He is a talented water color artist,
specializing in N.H. landscapes. He sells paintings and original
greeting cards. These make excellent gifts.
Our next new members
are a husband and wife team, Norman and Gretchen Durak, who
specialize in quilts and primitive arts.
We welcome all our new
members and appreciate their hard work in our shop, we hope that
they stay with us for many seasons to come.
All of our members
and consignors are some of the most talented Artisans in New
Hampshire, if you are or know of a talented Artisan who specializes
in fine N.H. arts, please come in to our shop or call at 736-8200.
We are located at 10 Goboro Rd. Epsom, N.H., which is located a 1/2
mile east of the Epsom traffic circle on Route 4/202; take a left at
the first traffic light. Going west on Route 4/202 take a right at
the second traffic light after the Epsom Fire Station.
Letter
Dear Town of Epsom residents: I would like to take this
opportunity to thank the wonderful people of Epsom and their
families for allowing me to serve them for the last 9 years in
taking care of the town cemeteries. I know that many residents
and their family members take pride in maintaining the cemeteries
out of love and respect for their lost loved ones, and I have truly
enjoyed every minute spent at the McClary, Short Falls, Bickford,
Brown, and Libby cemeteries. I too took pride in professionally
maintaining the respected resting place for loved ones. I also
appreciate the words of gratitude I have received from the
townspeople when visiting the cemeteries, as well as working with
them over the years to resolve their issues and concerns.
Regrettably, the Board of Selectmen and Cemetery Trustees have
decided to hire another contractor to do the mowing and maintenance
of the town cemeteries this year due to budget issues, and
unfortunately, I will not be serving the Town again this year.
As such, any future concerns regarding the cemeteries should
be directed to them.
Sincerely, Kevin Riel Epsom
Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield: This
week, the House met to consider more Senate bills. First we passed
ten bills at once, then concurred with minor Senate amendments on
another ten. SB93, allowing pharmacists to administer pneumonia and
shingles vaccines, as well as flu shots, passed without discussion.
SB120, allowing limited advertisement of drink specials, passed
358-15, with the only discussion being on whether Representatives
who had liquor licenses could vote on the bill. The advice was that,
as long as the liquor license had been disclosed, the vote was not a
conflict of interest. Dan and I voted for it, as did Representative
Keith Murphy, who is our co-owner in Murphy’s Taproom.
Representatives Jon Richardson and Tony Soltani also voted in favor
of this bill.
SB40, making technical corrections to the rooms and
meals tax laws, had an amendment to cut the tobacco tax by $0.10 per
pack. There was a brief debate on whether this would actually
increase or decrease tax revenues before the amendment passed,
272-108, and the bill passed on a voice vote.
The session was
coming to a close without a vote on the Governor’s veto of HB474,
Right to Work, which had been expected. Representative Soltani, who
opposes this bill, attempted to speak against the procedural “third
reading” motion. His speech, essentially stating that if it passed
we couldn’t address the veto today, was repeatedly gaveled down as
out of order until he was escorted back to his seat. The motion
passed, 255-119.
All constituents are invited to meet with me and
Dan at home on Sunday, June 5, to discuss legislation for next year.
Anyone who wants more information than I can fit into a letter
should email me for my newsletter.

Public Library News College Planning Workshop
A free
workshop on college costs and funding options will be held at the
library on Tuesday, June 14, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Presented
by Lee A. Waldvogel, a College Outreach Specialist from the New
Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation, the workshop will
instruct attendees on how to navigate the college financing process.
Further information may be obtained by calling the library at
736-9920 or e-mailing
www.nhheaf.org.
Book Club The Book Club will meet on Wednesday, June 15, at
6:30 p.m. to discuss Jamie Ford’s “Hotel On The Corner Of Bitter And
Sweet.” The Library Journal comments that “Ford expertly nails
the sweet innocence of first love, the cruelty of racism, the
blindness of patriotism, the astonishing unknowns between parents
and their children, and the sadness and satisfaction at the end of a
life well lived. The result is a vivid picture of a confusing and
critical time in American history.” Anyone wishing to join in
the discussion is invited to stop by the library to pick up a copy
of the book.
Computer Workshop Anyone wishing to learn how to
navigate a webpage document is invited to attend a workshop at the
library on either Wednesday, June 15, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. or
Wednesday, June 22 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Participants must
sign up at the front desk of the library as each class is limited to
eight people.
