White Mountain Chapter Of Nam Knights Motorcycle Club
Completes Fall Clean Up At Epsom Traffic Circle Police
Memorial Submitted By Mike “Iron Mike” Dempsey
Recently, the White Mountain Chapter of the Nam Knights Motorcycle
Club did a fall clean up at the Epsom Traffic Circle Police Memorial
for Fallen Officers Jeremy Charron and Michael Briggs. The Nam
Knights MC is a group of active and retired Law Enforcement Officers
and honorably discharged Veterans whose primary mission is to
support Law Enforcement and Veterans Charities throughout the state.
The
Knights mowed the grass, weeded, trimmed trees, edged the beds,
planted bulbs for the spring and placed bales of straw and pumpkins
for the fall.
The
Nam Knights MC would like to thank the following local business for
their support. Northeast Landscape of Chichester for mowing, the
discounted bark mulch and labor to spread it.
Coles Garden Center of Concord for the 30% discount on the pumpkins.
Clark’s Grain Store of Chichester for four free bales of straw.
Please visit our contributors, without their support we could not do
what we do.
Letter Carol’s off helping with recounts today,
so she’s turned the reins over to me.
We
sincerely thank the Republican and Independent primary voters who
propelled us into the general election, and who provided great
running mates: Tony Soltani and Jon Richardson. Tony is well known
in the district, having served many terms in Concord, as well as
being Epsom’s town attorney. Jon is a young family man from
Allenstown, with excellent conservative principles and lots of
energy. Jon runs the Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Hooksett.
This coming election offers you a clear choice of two different
directions for our state. To encourage private enterprise,
streamline government activities and to treat adults like adults,
vote Republican (please!). To expand government’s reach, with ever
more public employees and the resulting financial burden on
taxpayers, vote Democrat.
One
of the bills Carol authored this year removed the mandate for
residential sprinklers that was in the latest version of the
building code. The fact is that home sprinklers simply aren’t a
cost-effective way to save lives. At the polls in Pittsfield, one
gentleman I spoke to surprised me by saying that he couldn’t vote
for Carol because of her stand on sprinklers! It turned out that he
was a member of the fire department and his experience with fire
death made him feel that sprinklers should be mandated.
I
learned some lessons from that encounter. No matter what you do, it
will displease someone. Therefore, it is important for legislators
to communicate not just what they are doing, but also why.
Especially if it can be early in the process.
Carol and I would love to hear from you. Call us at 782-4918 or
email Carol or Dan at mcguire4house.com.
Let’s put New Hampshire back to work!
Yours, Dan McGuire
Hunger Sucks Food Rocks
Yes, we actually have wristbands that say “Hunger Sucks, Food
Rocks”. But let’s face it:, it’s true. Get your
wristband today by stopping by Loudon Food Pantry at 30 Chichester
Rd., Unit D, in Loudon, Monday through Thursday any time from 10
AM-5 PM. They are available in blue and green and sell for
$1.00 each in small, medium, and large sizes. All proceeds will
benefit Loudon Food Pantry.
Funds And Food Donations Are Needed Now And For Holiday Season
We
are signing up new people on a weekly basis and we have seen old
faces returning for food (employment running out, lost jobs, etc.)
as well. The numbers of households that need our services are
rising. During our first week of handing out food by appointment
only, we serviced 85 households - a new record. We figured that
being open Monday-Thursday to hand out food would allow us to be
more available to help those in need. We figured right!
In
July 2010, we serviced 310 households and handed out enough food for
4,893 meals. In August 2010, we serviced 327 households and handed
out enough food for 6,908 meals. As you can see, the need is always
growing!
We
are desperately in need of funds and food now! Our shelves are
almost empty and soon we will not be able to offer those in need a
nutritious balance of food.
The
Holiday Season is just around the corner. It always seems that this
time of the year there are more people in need. Each year we give
out Thanksgiving Boxes to each of our patrons. Last year we handed
out 150 boxes. Due to the generosity of our donors, we were able to
put fresh bananas, apples, potatoes, carrots and onions in the
boxes, as well as the holiday meal basics. But in order to supply
fresh items for the boxes, we need funds. We use funds to purchase
fresh, to supplement the fresh produce items just before handing out
the boxes so the produce will be at its freshest. This year we will
be handing out Thanksgiving Boxes from November 15th through to
November 18th. We will be starting to accept Holiday Signup
Applications October 4, 2010.

Food/Items We Currently Need
Like
most food pantries, this is the hardest time of the year to keep our
shelves stocked. We’re not just talking food. We are also talking
about necessities (toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.) that
people cannot buy using food stamps.
When donating, please keep in mind that…
Larger items are not always better. For example. A large
can of baked beans will be able to feed one large household. But,
two average sized cans of baked beans, can feed two households.
No
candy, soda, or energy drinks. We have people with dietary issues
and children with hyperactivity issues that should not have these
types of products. (Exception: flu season. We allow
ginger ale to be donated.)
No
outdated food. We check all food when it comes in and discard any
outdated food. When manufacturers determine what date to put on
food, they assume that it is stored in poor conditions. When we
receive donated, it is often impossible to determine how the food
was stored. It is for this reason that we must defer to what
the manufacturer recommends, or risk making people sick.
No
open containers or used food. These items are unsafe and will be
immediately discarded. Donors do not receive any credit for
outdated, opened, or used food. If an entire donation consists of
these items, no donation letter will be issued.
Besides funds, we are in serious need of the following items.
Low
Sodium Food, Shelf-Stable Milk, Cereal, Fruit (canned or fresh),
Baked Beans, Beans (kidney, chick peas, etc.), Beverages (juice,
water, etc.), Pasta, Tomato Products (canned), Vegetables (canned or
fresh), Canned Meat, Canned Fish (tuna, salmon, etc.), Snacks
(crackers, cookies, etc.), Cranberry Sauce, Turkey Stuffing,
Pudding, Jello, Pumpkin Pie Filling, Misc. Items (mayonnaise, salad
dressing, etc.), Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Personal Care Products,
Baby Diapers, Pet Food.
Loudon Food Pantry is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization which strives to feed those who find it financially
difficult to feed themselves.
Your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
