Letter THE YEAR IS 2010 The place is Epsom,
et al What have you learned thus far this year ?
I’m
not talking about “the small stuff” like resumption of billion
dollar pork barrel greed. Nations rising against nations.
Increase of violence in the streets. Near to total pollution of our
oceans and air. Right now we are seeing evidence of the so called
United States of America turning into the not so united states of
America as exampled by the Feds. failure to respond to the cry
for help from the people in Arizona. Other states have expressed
their distaste and anger toward this cry for help also. I would call
it states rising against states. Sounds like words right from the
Bible.

The Friends of Epsom’s Historic Meetinghouse
The
Committee is looking for help to complete the old meetinghouse. As
in the past, LCHIP will match the money raised for the project. Any
work done by volunteers will be valued at $22.50 per hr. A schedule
of work days is being planned to start on the projects as we move
toward finishing the building.
We
are planning to hold a silent auction at our booth at Epsom’s Old
Home Day, held on Aug. 14. We will be accepting donations of art
work such as hand painted items, prints, framed photos, ceramics and
quality hand sewn or knitted items and other things of value.
We
will also welcome gifts of services from our local businesses. Gift
certificates will be bid on along with the other items. Examples of
this would be; 2 large pizzas valued at $25, or 1 auto inspection,
valued at $35, $50 off a fill up of fuel oil, and a free water
analysis valued at $50.
Please speak to one of the committee members if you would like to
volunteer or contribute to the auction. Call Dick at 736-9295 for
more information.
Letter
To
my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, & Pittsfield: This week the
House met to reconcile amendments with the Senate, and create
committees of conference when necessary. However, it became clear
that leadership, in both the House and the Senate, is playing games.
The House passed a collection of budget cuts, new borrowing, and new
and increased taxes and fees in SB450. The Senate voted not to
concur with SB450, and not to request a committee of conference;
instead, they amended HB1128, which had restored some rooms & meals
tax revenue sharing, by deleting all revenue sharing and replacing
it with a different mix of budget cuts, borrowing, increased taxes
and fees, and a new gambling proposal.
The
motion on HB1128 was to not concur, and if the Senate agreed by 3pm
to a committee of conference on SB450, to request a committee of
conference on HB1128. This was so unusual, the parliamentarians went
into a frenzy, protesting the complex nature of the motion. The
debate lasted over two hours, and was overwhelmingly procedural –
there was no interest in concurring, and the majority was strongly
in favor of a committee of conference, so the result was
foreordained. The motion passed, 181-169.
We
later saw a signed but informal agreement between House and Senate
leadership, which specified that the SB450 and HB1128 committees of
conference were to have the same members, meet together and produce
one bill for both houses. I find it very disappointing that backroom
deals are needed to get the current leadership together to work on
the budget when the state is facing a major deficit.
Anyone interested in what’s going on at the State House is invited
to email or call me; those who’d like a more detailed report than I
can fit in The Sun should email me for my newsletter.

REST AND AT EASE VETERAN Reveille! Reveille!
Veteran, It’s time to come home to me: there’ll be no need to
show your ID. Whoever you be or where ever you are: the
distance for you is not that far. That which you have done:
is similar to the gift of my son As you go neath the sky:
you’ll find me, your Father, of most high. Enter now my servant
for your reward: and thank you for accepting me as your Lord.
