Daffodil Bulbs: To All Who Participate In Epsom Roadside
Clean-up
The
daffodils you earned last year are blooming. Aren’t they beautiful?
It is time to volunteer to help with Epsom’s annual roadside
clean-up in honor of Earth Day. All those who assist with cleanup
and contact the Epsom Conservation Commission will receive daffodil
bulbs in the fall.
The
Epsom Conservation Commission coordinates the program and the bulbs
are donated by Litter Free NH. We encourage you to participate. This
is the 20th Earth Day Roadside Clean-up in Epsom. Please consider
cleaning up a section of road, area, trail or waterway. Perhaps you
are part of a group or organization, or a resident who is willing to
help with this effort. Perhaps you have seen your neighbors doing
their part. Many Epsom residents make it a ritual to help with
roadside clean-up.
Last year one family found a pile of tires dumped out on a woods
trail and they were able to bring them to BCEP and not be charged.
The week of Earth Day, BCEP will accept roadside litter at no
charge. Another family would pick up trash as they walked to the
library. Many reported including children and the children all
commented on the amount of trash.
We
encourage folks to get out there the week of Earth Day which is
April 22nd. Our recycling center will be accepting roadside trash
during that week.
There are many miles of road in Epsom. The commission thanks all
those who get out there every year and do their part. Won’t you
help? Do it in honor of spring, the natural beauty of Epsom, Earth
Day, and the joy of seeing clean roadsides, trails and public areas.
Participants will receive Daffodil Bulbs for their participation
if you E-mail or mail what you did. Distribution of daffodils
will be the first week of October 2010.

Commission, PO Box 10, Epsom, 03234.
Also contact us if you are interested in adopting a section of
state road.

Letter
To My Constituents In Allenstown, Epsom, And Pittsfield: This
week the House had a very short session, with twelve bills on the
consent calendar (one vote for all of them), and eight taken up
separately. We passed SB344, on benefits of court employees,
177-124. SB310, on studies of case management for the deaf, sparked
the only debate of the day. The committee had recommended it be
killed, as within the scope of the existing commission; one
proponent spoke in favor, but the bill was killed, 268-74. SB318, on
dispensing therapeutic contact lenses; SB376, naming a bridge in New
Castle; and SB481, adjusting appropriations for some turnpike
projects were passed by acclamation. SB331, establishing a
commission on substance use, was killed.
SB343, requiring Health and Human Services to issue a request for
proposal on managed care for Medicaid patients, was killed 241-108.
SB154, naming a highway in Franconia in honor of Corporal Bruce
McKay, was tabled. Normally the House agrees with the town about
memorials, but Corp. McKay is very controversial in Franconia and
the town narrowly voted against naming the road for him; still, he
was killed in the line of duty, and a vote to kill the bill could be
seen as an anti-police vote or an insult to his family. So, table
it!
In
cleanup, we sent SB302, on notice of license expiration, back to the
Transportation Committee to fix a loophole; concurred with minor
Senate amendments on 10 bills; and set up Committees of Conference
on HB230, defining abuse in domestic violence cases, and HB1516,
funding four district courts next year.
Anyone interested in what’s going on at the State House is invited
to email or call me; those who’d like a more detailed report than I
can fit in The Sun should email me for my newsletter.
